NCO AIDE MEMOIRE PAGE 10 1001. CHITS AND DEFAULTERS:
Chits are a form of written reprimand or commendation that is placed in a Cadet's permanent record or file. Chits will only be written by officers or warrant officers. Any chit that is to be a reprimand shall be written in red ink. Any chit that is to be a commendation shall be written in blue or black ink. All chits must be signed by an officer and warrant officer. After the chit has been written and signed, it is to be handed to the AdminO so that it can be placed in the appropriate Cadet's file.
Defaulters are a form of reprimand. Defaulters or extra duties are given to a Cadet with a repeating discipline problem. Before a Cadet is to be placed on defaulters he/she must be inform as to why they have been placed on defaulters, and what the Cadet can do to fix the problem. Defaulters shall only be given by officers and warrant officers. All senior NCOs are expected to approach a warrant officer if they feel that appropriate action is required for a problem. All defaulters shall be logged in the "Defaulters Log Book", which will be placed on the Duty NCO desk on the sixth floor. At the end of the night the "Defaulters Log Book", will be returned to the office. The personnel responsible for ordering the defaulters must sign his/her name, state the reason for ordering defaulters and have the receiving Cadet sign in the "Defaulters Log Book". Defaulters shall be carried out by the Duty Sgt for the evening. The Duty Sgt is responsible for finding out what extra duties there are for the evening, and being sure that the defaulters are being carried out. The Duty Sgt must supervise the defaulters at all times.
1002. DISCIPLINING:As stated in the later only officers and warrant officers will order chits or defaulters. This however does not exclude NCOs from disciplining Cadets. NCOs are not to power trip on the Cadets. NCOs will show a "FIRM, FAIR and FRIENDLY", attitude towards the Cadets. NCOs are expected to correct mistakes as soon as they are noted, and to solve any discipline problems immediately. It is expected that an NCO will make a Cadet redo something if it was incorrect the first time. The NCO must help the Cadet reach a high standard in whatever the Cadet does. It is the responsibility of all NCOs to ensure that the unit runs smooth, and with as few problems as possible. NCOs are also expected to work as a team and discipline one another. NCOs must work at correcting their own problems before they can expect to fix a Cadet's problems. Part of discipline is insuring that the chain of command is used at all times.
