501.  WORDS OF COMMAND:

• 1. Good drill depends on properly delivered words of command. They are to be pronounced clearly and distinctively, with confidence and determination, as they convey an order which is to be promptly obeyed.
• 2. Words of command are divided into:
  • a) cautionary commands; and
  • b) executive commands
• 3. The cautionary command serves as a warning for movement to be performed, and shall be given before the executive command. The cautionary would include words such as: "Advance", "Move to the right in threes", etc.
• 4. The executive command is given as the foot, specified in the following list, is forward on the ground. The executive would include words such as: "March", "Halt", "Turn", etc.
• 5. This is the command/foot list. Refer to this list as it states which foot the command is called on.

  • 6. "AS YOU WERE" shall only be ordered when another word of command cannot be used to have a squad adopt a previous position or to cancel an incorrect order before it has been completed.
