January 3, 2000: "Just because they're fat, doesn't mean they're dumb..."

..That line is from last week's SNL with Gwyneth Paltrow (okay so I'm not sure how to spell her name), which was a rerun, but I didn't catch it the first time. But the sketch had her and Jimmy Fallon doing open mic at a bar. She was some hippie chick and he was the guy who fell for her voice and songs. They did a song together about the whales, where I got the heading from. It made us laugh so hard...it still does.

And you may have noticed that I'm using proper grammar in capitalizing the beginning of sentences, names, titles, etc. It's a part of my resolutions, I guess...though I didn't make any this year. But it just looks better, don't you think?

But I have a lot of things to talk about so I better get going!

Since the last update, I've gone through New Years (and everyone else) and my first day of school. I also have to throw in the mix a very weird (and detailed!) dream I had several days ago.

In the days leading up to New Years, Larry was able to get off work a few hours early. Thursday he came home at 2pm, just when I was preparing breakfast (*chuckle*) and settling in to watch "Passions." Since he was home so early, we were able to get some errands done!

First we went to the post office so he could pick up his CDs from BMG (Bob Dylan stuffs. :P). Then we went and got his UW ID card and dropped of his signed promissory notes. We went home to relax a bit, mainly because HE wanted to listen to his new Dylan. :P~ But we still went downtown a few hours later.

The main goal for the trip was for him to spend what he had on his Old Navy card before it expired. And it was pretty easy! He picked up some fleece pajama pants and two long-sleeved shirts. I got the same pajama pants (but in black), another pair in flannel and two shirts which were $4 each! Pretty nifty. We walked around a little, but it got cold, so we then went home. Later we went to QFC to buy a New Years cake and some ice cream and other snacks. Productive day, hmm?

On Friday (which was his last day of work, yay!) he came home after two hours of work. I was still in bed! (which is typical, hell it was only 10-something) We did minor errands that day: picked up creampuffs, got a little Christmas gift for Mike and Michelle.

Lar and I did our [late] Christmas exchange before M&M came over. I got him a UW shirt, $20 certificate at CDNow, 12 guitar picks (which I paid too much for), and October Project and Collective Soul CDs. He got me a Pokemon pillow case (which I found on Monday when I picked him up..heh), and the NIN and Filter CDs. It was coo stuffs. :D

We lounged the whole day, and didn't get dressed until M&M arrived around 7pm. Well, I was dressed before that, but Lar got INto the shower when they arrived. *LOL* But he gets ready fast, so he was out in a jiff and we exchanged gifts. I feel kinna bad because M&M got us a REAL gift: Pop-Up Video Music Trivia. (Meesh got me a personal gift of Pokemon origami, cooooooo!!!) Lar and I only got them a calling card and then a chocolate orange. I was pretty stumped about what to get her since I didn't want her to heft around anything MORE to Norway...

We had dinner @ 9pm at Anthony's Homeport, a seafood place. I'm surprised we had such good seating: a good view of the waterfront (though it was marred by the glare of the lights inside) and we also had a booth. Double bonus! :) Our waitress was flighty but she also seemed tired...she was nice though.

As for the food...Lar and I got fried calamari as an appetizer, while M&M had crabcakes. Then same salad OR clam chowder, which was good. Meesh and I had seafood fettuccine; I thought it was slightly salty. Lar had the mahi mahi (fish) and Mike had steak with crab and some sauce on top. All in all, it was decent food, a bit pricey though (I'll get into that rant in a second). I came out of there $70 poorer, but we did get paper crowns and a champagne glass! :D

Next stop was Moani's house for their party. I felt it was important for Meesh to go there and say her goodbyes or else everyone would be mad at her for leaving w/o saying anything. But since it was nearly 11pm, everyone there was pretty messed up...which made them all super friendly, ya know. ;) Meesh and I had a little of that orange-creamsicle-tasting drink, but it was too strong for me so I poured it down the sink. :P It was good though!

We only stayed a few minutes. Lar and I had our picture taken with this guy's digital camera. The guy told us his URL, but I forgot it. I'll ask Moani for his email... Had a few pictures taken, but I don't know how centered they would be because it was a crazy atmosphere.

After 11pm, we left for home. And at midnight, we had our cider in champagne glasses..and did the traditional kiss. It was nice. Then we played Pop-Up Video for a LONG time. I SUCK at it. Hell, I didn't have MTV growing up for very long. And when I had it, I was like, 5 or something. How am I supposed to remember this stuff? *LOL* Meesh won both rounds, Lar was second and Mike and I were at the bottom somewhere. *LMAO*

We watched celebrity make-overs on Maury and they went home around 3am. But the night went along better than I expected (not that I thought it would be horrible or anything). :DDDDDDD

The next day I woke up at 4pm. *LOL* Lar and I just laid around the house. We spent the day watching tv, playing Nintendo, and listening to music stuffs. Since we woke up so late, we also stayed up late watching "Behind the Music" until about 3am.

One of the episodes was about REM, which lead to me having a dream with a Michael Stipe cameo. *L* It's a bit out of order now, since I've had it a few days ago...Onto the dream...

I only start remembering my dream after it had been "playing" for a while. I was able to fly, but I had to have these vials of glowing green fluid to be able to do this. Either I had to carry them on me, or else ingest it, I don't really remember. But after doing so, I had to run around a lot (see: lots of scenery shots). After building up speed, I had to "launch" myself from a ramp that looked much like the long skinny ramp on the Beach Level of MarioKart (I played Nintendo that day too). The funny thing about the ramp, other than it looking like on MarioKart was that, it seemed like I was running directly into a tree. But somehow, after I jumped off the edge, the tree disappeared...I fell low to the ground..and then lifted off....

I flew around for a while (see: more scenery) before landing on earth somewhere. But I knew that I wanted to go it again, and to make it permanent. Because, before I started this whole flying endeavor...a girl went up before me. (Okay it gets kind of weird here.) The flying solution (the vials of green fluid) had a timer on it, which was why I had to eventually come back to earth. But she learned that she could make the most use of her flight and fly out of the planet's atmosphere and into the solar system to become a planet.

That's right, become a planet and not have a planet.

The girl had been missing for several weeks and it was assumed that she succeeded in her wish. I wanted to join her. But I had to get my hands on more of that glowing solution! Here's where Michael Stipe came in...He was working on a song, its title actually. And throughout this dream he and I were disagreeing on what the title should be. But since I ended up stealing the green stuff, it was his title which stuck.

After drinking/securing the solution [to me], I found myself in a large grassy field. I ran around once again (see: still more scenery) and came up to that very same ramp...ran...jumped... fell...flew. I flew as fast as I could straight up until..

I hit a wall, much like the end of "The Truman Show" when Truman sails to the end of the movie set and runs into the wall. I began to hit the invisible wall like he did. (So I saw the movie again over the weekend. *L*) But then I heard her..the girl! She somehow found me.

She looked dirty and beaten. She told me she had failed. She didn't know that there was a barrier and she couldn't find a way through it. So now she just wanders about in the skies because she wasn't able to return to earth (read: lose the flying skills). She also told me that since I was up there too, I would become just like her.

I was horrified. Before I left to become a planet, I had mailed Larry (in my dream I'm not sure if it was him, but it was someone I cared a LOT for) a package with some of the green stuff. I wrote him a letter with instructions telling him how he could be with me forever, by becoming a planet next to me.

Now that I finally learned the truth, I had to stop him..so I dashed back to earth......
That's the end of my dream...weird huh?!

The funny thing is that after typing this out, I feel I can change it around a bit to make a story. I'm not sure if it would be suitable as a children's story..but a story nonetheless.

As for the rest of Sunday, Lar and I went to buy his books and grab dinner at Taco Del Mar. My burrito was awesome!!! We watched The Simpsons and then stayed up a little later..since he no longer had to wake up at 6am.

Today was my first day of classes. I started at 9.30 with Psych 209 (research methods) and ended at 11.30 with Psych 355 (cognitive). I like my 209 teacher but my 355 teacher has an accent that I know I'll be spacing out over. I talked to two people today. The first was a guy who talked to ME. But for some reason, he lost interest in me and then just drifted off.

    Our conversation:
  • Him: *after walking up next to me* Boy, I feel stupid!
  • Me: *chuckle* Why is that?
  • Him: I just left this room and I have to go back in there for my next class!
  • Me: *L* Which class did you just leave?
  • Him: Abnormal Psychology.
  • Me: Oh, I was gonna take that, but I didn't want to wake up that early. *L*
  • Him: *slight pause* Ummmmmm........okaaaaaay. *looks away*

Now, did I do anything wrong there? I was friendly, I smiled, I laughed, my conversation was light-hearted...and yet, he just dropped me..after HE talked to me first! See, that's what always happens to me..I'm a goon magnet. If it's not them picking me to talk to..it's me picking them..and they always suck! I have the worst luck meeting good people to talk to....

The other girl was someone who arrived late to 355. I did my duty as a nice person by telling her where to get her syllabus and the reading assignment. She asked me about the book and then thanked me for my help. Now, see? She's a nice one, but I don't think I'll see her again (since I have a crappy memory) because I'll be sitting in a totally different location (hard to see). Ah well. It's just the first day....

I got home and waited for Lar to arrive. His first day was alright..he talked to FOUR pretty COOL people. And he said the school was BIG. He had to walk hella FAR for his classes. *chuckle* You get used to all the walking.

We did some grocery shopping and then I *MADE* pad thai! We bought the noodle and seasoning pack at Trader Joe's. It turned out pretty well, if I do say so. :DDDDDD Lar's friend from NY called so they talked a while. I watched a lot of TV..and now I'm on here working on this update!

But I'm done now. It's nearly 2am here. I start at 10.30 tomorrow. I have a class with Weese! And then I'll be following him home to see what Mike and Jim are up to. G'nite!!!!!!!!!

last old entry was December 29, 1999.

January 4, 2000: Going off that last one...

I have a few comments that I had wanted to add to that update, but since it was 3am, I just went to bed. I don't normally like doing that because I like rereading my entries and then getting things all cleaned and fixed up you know? So I just did that rereading and fixing up a few minutes ago!

Some rants..

Now that the whole "New Years-Are-We-Gonna-Blow-Up-Party-Like-It's-1999" thing is over, I hope people will just stop with all the crap! Pull those Millenni-Os off the shelves, get that damn painted silver dollar off the TV, quit talking about "the millennium" because you know it doesn't start until 2001, and a kabizillion other annoying things!

My biggest complaint about New Years was places thinking they could jack up the prices just because they could. The first example would be "our" restaurant, Salty's on Alki. We've eaten there before and it came around $50 for the two of us. When Lar called for reservations, they told us the cheapest was $80 per person!!! He asked them why, whether they were doing anything to warrant this huge price increase. And you know what? They just said because they could and also, they weren't doing-doing anything. *haw!*

I guess that was the problem, though. A lot of places were making their stuff over-priced and thus, scaring away people. I think it's funny because it's corporate greed and they didn't get all they wanted. Ha!

Another place that jacked up their prices was my beloved China First. I have always counted on the reliable $3.25 Lunch Menu for Sweet-n-Sour Chicken. But when Lar and I went in there after picking up our creampuffs, they gave us the red menu, which was their full-price menu. We asked if we could get the other menu, since they serve lunch at those prices until 4pm (it was only 1pm) and they said they weren't gonna since it was "a holiday." What's all that crap about?!

And, I don't know if you guys know....but the Mayor here cancelled the New Years party at the Seattle Center for fear of terrorist attack. I think that was a LAME move. I mean, if people weren't gonna go to the party, then they weren't going to. Hello? And it was also ironic since the party was going to have a big bonfire to show renewal and peace and some other good junk. So that was taken away as well. (Though apparently some people had a bonfire elsewhere.) I think it's just amusing. I know he's not getting a good rating from the public after this and especially with that WTO madness. :P Ah well, politics.

I wanted to add more comments in regards to my dream, though. First of all, I think it was amusing how many pieces of "real life" appeared in my dream. I mean, sure that's common knowledge how "real life" would appear in your dream..how else would you have the components to have a decent dream? Anyways. So yeah, "The Truman Show" appeared a few times, especially at the verra-important ending. The REM thing made me laugh hysterically. The MarioKart ramp made me chuckle as well. I had more things to say when I was thinking of what to write, but I've forgotten them! *d'oh*

But I guess that's enough of old stuff...

So today Lar and I both started @ 10.30, and we walked out together. *aawwww* *L* But we went different ways shortly. I had my Psych355 class and it was pretty boring. I guess it was "fun" since she did those mind-benders on us. *shrug* After that, I had to rush over to CMU with Weese. He had some other friends in that class, so I didn't even get a chance to talk to him until class started. D'oh well.

The professor talks so SLOW! It's horrible! And this is my 2-hour class, though he said he prolly wasn't gonna use the full time. Yay! When class let out I was planning on picking up my CMU application, but the bastards in the office were out to lunch! Is it so hard to just have a stack of applications outside the door? Geez! Then we were gonna get Weese's course packet but the line was too damn long, so we just went to his dorm.

I have him the pikachu origami I made last night and he liked it. :) He gave me a pikachu dog-tag. I think I'll put it on my bag. :D Then we called Annie to invite her to come to Bellevue with us. I didn't stay there long enough to wait for Mike or Jim though. *pout* We drove through campus to Annie's and almost hit Larry, so we invited him to come with us. *L*

It wasn't really a fun-fun trip, we only had to go with Weese to pick up some computer supplies. We ended up eating at Red Robin (RR) but the service was horrible! Even worse than that last time with the baby stroller at Northgate. I mean, the place wasn't even busy. They prolly had two servers to each table, but our guy was just dicking around, talking and he didn't check back once after he gave us our food. Lar actually went up to him and told him to get his ass back to our table! No tip for you!

Then Weese took us home. Lar and I fell asleep soon after because we were pretty tired. He woke up before me, though, to watch the Sugar Bowl...and he let me sleep for about 3 extra hours. Ouch! I woke up after 9pm. Eeeeeeeeeeeek. I dunno how I'll get back to sleep tonight but at least I'm well-rested right now. :D

Tomorrow Annie, Jim, and I are meeting for lunch @ 11.30, it should be fun. I prolly won't see Mike until Thursday though. He has something for me. *teeheehee!* As for my California trip, I know I have a statistics quiz the Friday of MLK weekend. I obviously can't miss it. But I think I can miss Tuesday, so I may go from Friday afternoon until Tuesday afternoon/evening. It could work.

I am reluctant to really act on this decision, since these dates are only a couple weeks away. I don't want to feel like I've made my choice in haste, you know? Though I don't really see why I would think I was really being hasty since I've said I was going to California for a zillion years! :P!

But I need to get in contact with them to talk it over! I'll be doing that during this week and also calling the IRS. *EEEK* Last year, I tried to file online but I stopped halfway (I had to mail in another piece of paper and have someone stamp it.) I then filed the usual snail-mail way and got everything I was supposed to. But they still think that I haven't completed my return due to this missing paper! How the hell am I supposed to find my tax stuff again? So I'm hoping that I can just tell them I ended up mailing it in so they can cancel this online one I sent. :P

I guess this is enough talka..I'm gonna go and do something now, I'm not sure what, but I know I should be doing something else. ;)

January 5, 2000: Three days?!

I've been pretty good about updating. I just have so much time nowadays with my classes ending so early. I typically begin reading for school in the second week. *chuckle*

Today was a pretty good day. 209 was fine. The room just gets so stuffy that I want to gag. *ug* 355 was actually more interesting than 209. There's some older man in this class and he acts like he knows everything. The woman was telling us about Chomsky (I think I spelled that right), pronouncing it "CHomsky." The man interrupts her and says it's really pronounced "Homsky." Of course she knew that, she was just saying so for the class' benefit, or whatever. I could tell she was getting annoyed at him because he had already talked twice before. :P This guy sitting next to me started laughing.

I met up with Jim and Annie at the flagpole. We ended up eating at Orange King. We were kind of rushed off though because these three guys were talking over us saying, "Oh, they're about to leave so we can sit there." So then I wanted to stay longer, but Annie and Jim both got up so I left with them. *shrug*

They went with me to the copy center to buy my CMU course packet. I saw a girl I went to HS with, but I didn't talk to her. :P Then we returned to campus and talked until they had their classes at 12.30. I did a lot of unnecessary walking, though. Cuz see, first I had to go and get my CMU application and then also pick up a student directory. But the CMU room was closed until 1 (it was 12.30) and I couldn't find the room with the directories. Bah! So I just walked home.

Lar was already there and we talked about our days and now I'm working on my page once again. Lar's mom had given him a lil' cheap-o TV for xmas and I have it turned on in the room with me, but I can only hear it; the picture doesn't come out very well. But I'm happy that I just home!

Nothing else going on for the day. I suppose I can read something. We need to do laundry. Find what we want for dinner. Clean up the apartment (most of it is the dirty clothes :P).

But I'm feeling really rushed about the California trip. So I dunno if I'm gonna persue it much further than til the end of the week...it's just unnecessary stress, ya know.

And on a personal and sad note, one of my chat friends lost his battle with cancer a week ago. I don't think I should mention his name out of respect for his and his family's privacy. But those of you who do know..you..well, know. I wanted to mention it because doing so, makes it hit more close to home...rather than me just keeping it inside and denying it. I'm not sure how to end this entry now that I started it on this note..so I'm just gonna end it right here.

January 6, 2000: Pretty damn good

Today's shaped up to be a pretty good day. It was difficult leaving the apartment this morning because Larry was leaving an hour after me. But I did it! I asked him about his attendance record and he told me he always attends class. So then maybe I'll also do the same because he's doing so.

Today was my longest day yet! I had all three of my lectures. I was pretty damn tired too since I took a long nap yesterday that put me all out of whack. But it was alright. Nothing notable in 209. I left 5mins early from 355. And Weese picked up my CMU application for me.

I hung out with him a while. We had lunch and then went to return his book and also buy his CMU packet. Towards the end we ran into Tanya and talked a little. Then he took me home.

So I didn't go to the game tonight. And no one else did, for that matter. :P But I did some of my reading since there was homework for it (just email the TA a discussion question by 5pm). Then I went online to look for plane tickets.

I found a pretty good deal! $167 for a ticket to Los Angeles and for the upcoming MLK weekend to boot! Now all I need to hear..once more..is whether Patrick will be there or not. He's really the only reason why I'm rushing to go this month if he wasn't a factor, then I would just frigging go next month and not feel like everything was so soon you know?

I also got my AllAdvantage check today! $25 baby!!!

Yep yep, today's been a nice day. I relaxed the rest of the night. I called a few people. I got a chance to talk to Meesh before she and Mike went off to work. I'll talk to her once more over the weekend before she leaves. *sniffle* She does the best jiggly-puff and bulbasaur. *awww*

And so I close this update in brighter spirits than I did the other day. I look forward to the chance of going to LA in a few days (if my decision goes that way). I look forward to depositing my $25 check. I'm looking forward to talka Meesh one mo time. And hell, I'm actually looking forward to going to the IMA tomorrow!

January 7, 2000: It's getting even better!

Did you really think I'd let a day go by without updating? But, you say, this update is really being typed at 1am..making this the 8th, and not the 7th... To that I say, leave me alone! ;)

Anyways, so on the very forefront of my mind is California. And you know why? That's because I'm going! Yes yes, I'm finally going after all these years. *L* (The first promise to come was sometime during spring 1998.) I emailed them about it and received some responses, which were positive. And an excited phone message from Nancy..*heh* I bought my tix before I could change my mind (as *if* I would?). So I'm on my way, baby!

But other things for today...

So I had to go to 209 section, which was freaking far at the Chemistry Library. *Ug* But luckily she let us out early and I rushed to SAV for my CMU section. There was a room change, though! Thankfully it was only upstairs; I was the lucky one. A guy looking at another room asked me what "SAC" stood for, but I couldn't help him. *d'oh well* Class was boring, it was exactly like last quarter!

Then we met up for lunch at By George...me, Weese, Annie, Mike, and Jim. And it was coo..Annie and I left together cuz we have class close together. They had plans for tonight, but I knew I wouldn't be able to join em. *shrug*

My final class of the day was section for 355. And it was horrible. I dunno..she's not very good at teaching, I guess. It's one of those classes where no one wants to talk and when someone does..it's this smart-alecky guy. *snort* I felt bad for her though. She also let us out early. Whew!

So when I came home, I heard Nan's message and that got me on a ticket hunt. But for some reason the flight that I was looking at the day before was gone! So I was annoyed at losing it cuz I would be losing valuable time taking a later flight. But I was just gonna let it go for now cuz Lar and I went to the IMA (for those who don't know..it's the school's gym).

I was looking all sporty in my noisy pants and brand-spanking-new-blinding-white tennis shoes...*L* (I bought these shoes my freshman year here! I bought them along with my Ecco shoes, which I have *long* since retired!) Arriving was intimidating, but I was being a goof so I didn't really really notice.

We were in the big room with all the machines. And first we were on the bicycle as a warm-up..and I kept up with Lar pretty goo! We were on there like 12mins. Then he went to do some presses and I went on this air-walking machine. And I was on that for 12mins as well..it was *hard* He joined me after a few reps. Moani came by and we talked..I am sure she was surprised to see me there! *LMAO*

Then Lar and I went to another machine and did some lifts, reps, or whatever. And then we wandered around but couldn't decide what to do next, so then we left! I mean, we were only there 40mins or so, but I kept up! And I admit I was feeling pretty good. But all those stairs going up to campus towards home, were horrible! We actually stopped and talked. ;)

I went back online to look for tickets and the missing flight was back! So I grabbed it. Me Happy. Me going soon! Then Lar and I just laid around and watched tv. I started cleaning because we had paper on every inch of the floor!

I have much to do this weekend..such as finish my CMU application, there'll be a statistics quiz on Friday, and I think I should get most of my CMU paper completed as well! It's a lot to do but I'm feeling really goooooo! I'm going to California to see the bubs and Patrick!!

Yeaaaaaaaah baby!
