“What happened?” Ally dumbfoundedly asked the officer.
“Is this your car ma’am?”
“Yes, what happened?” Ally repeated, tension showing in her voice.
“All that we know as of now is that someone completely vandalized your car. Why? We don’t know. When? We have no idea…”
Ally’s eyes wondered around her car assessing the damages. Tears were forming when she felt two hands on her shoulders and turned around to meet with Nick’s gaze. Nick quickly enveloped Ally in a strong hug.
“We would like to write out a report and we need you to contact your insurance company…” The officer continued but to Ally, she wasn’t really hearing any of it. Even though it was just her car, she was in shock.
Nick wasn’t sure what exactly had propelled him to be doing what he was doing, but he liked the way that Ally felt in his arms.
“Did you have anything of extreme value in the car?” The officer asked.
Ally snapped back into reality. “What?” she asked.
The officer was becoming increasingly annoyed with Ally and repeated his question in a somewhat harsh tone.
Ally thought for a second. “I don’t think so,” she answered.
The officer ripped off a piece of paper from his notebook with a complete report and gave it to Ally. “If you need anything else or discover anything, please contact me at the number below.”
“Thank you sir.” Ally said. The officer got in his patrol car and drove away.
“Perfect,” Ally said quietly.
“It’s okay Ally, you didn’t do anything to deserve this.” Nick soothed. “The person who did this probably didn’t even know you and just wanted to have some fun. Trust me. We’ll get everything fixed and your Jeep will be good as new.”
“Thanks Nick.” Ally said, still in Nick’s arms.
Moments later, Matt walked over towards the Jeep. “What the hell?!?” he yelled.
“That Jeep right there,” Ally started. “That’s my car. Isn’t it cute?” Ally said sarcastically.
“You don’t understand,” Ally practically yelled into the phone. “It’s not my fault. No one was in the car when this happened. The car wasn’t even turned on.”
“I’m sorry,” said Ally’s insurance agent. “Your policy does not cover vandalism. Now if you had signed up for the AX plan, then we could cover your claim, but your signed statement on your contract says that you did not have enough money to invest in the AX plan…”
Ally slammed down the phone. “Fuck this,” she said frustratedly. Just then, Ally heard a knock at her door. When she opened it, she was face to face with Rachel Burnile (the girl that Nick and Ally had met earlier and the one that Matt thinks is hot).
“I heard about your car,” Rachel said flatly. “I’m so sorry.” The manipulative smile on Rachel’s face told the entire story as she left the doorway to Ally’s room and continued on her way down the hotel hallway.
Ally shut the door, thoughts racing through her head. “Could she have?” Ally questioned in her mind. “But why?” Seconds later, there was another knock on Ally’s door.
“Ally you’re not going to believe this,” Nick said. “I think I accidentally found out who vandalized your car. You know Rachel?”
“But there’s no proof,” Ally said looking into Nick’s eyes. The two were sitting at a coffee table in Ally’s hotel room “All that we have on her is what you overheard her saying to her friend on the phone in the lobby.”
“I know, but Ally, what she was saying completely sounded like she had done it.”
“But, if she had done it, then why would she be broadcasting it on a downstairs phone where anyone within earshot could hear her? Doesn’t everyone have a phone in their room?”
“I don’t know. You’re right though. Why would she use the phone in the lobby when she already had one in her room?”
“I wish I knew.”
“Think positively Ally. Maybe she’ll slip up or something and we’ll get her.”
“Man, you just sounded like you were a Mafia member.” Ally smiled as she leaned back against the couch cushion.
“What can I say. AJ had a thing for The Godfather movies during the tour. I think that I came out of there permanently damaged or something.”
“Or something,” Ally answered smiling playfully.
The sun was shining brightly through the curtins when Nick and Ally finally had fallen asleep on the couch with their heads resting against each other’s shoulders after hours and hours of talking.
