“Miss Parker, I am pleased to announce that you have been chosen to play Keri Walker in Dimension Films’ newest romantic comedy co-starring Nick Carter, from the Backstreet Boys, as Sean Turner, your love interest.”
“Nick Carter?” Ally questioned causing Angela to give her pleading looks for more information.
“Is there a problem Miss. Parker?”
“Oh, no. It’s just that, I thought that Nick Carter already had a demanding schedule.”
“So did we, but for some reason, he auditioned and the kid can act. We are going to give him a chance. Anyway, there is going to be a meeting on Thursday, June 10th at the Hilton on Broadway and Santa Monica at 3:00. In addition to this meeting, you will be given your scripts and sign your contract. Shooting begins in three weeks. This means that it is extremely important that you commit to this, meeting and all. If not, there are other more experienced people that would love to take your place.”
“I understand, thank you,” Ally said, and she hung up the phone.
“So what’s this about Nick Carter?” Angela asked.
“Apparently, he’s playing my love interest. I got the part,” Ally said with excitement building in her words.
“Congratulations Ally!” Angela screamed as she enveloped her somewhat bewildered friend in a hug. “And Nick Carter, my God are you lucky.” Angela paused. “Oh, that’s right, you aren’t the boy band type. Too bad for you.”
Ally laughed. “Don’t worry Ang, I will be sure that you get to meet him.”
“How’d you know that’s what I was getting at?”
“The fact that the only CD that you have in your car happens to be the Backstreet Boys. Or was it that you have been trying to convert me into a Nick-crazed teenybopper since the day that we met?” Ally said with a smile playing on her lips. By this time, both of them were laughing.
“Um…anyway, I hate to do this,” Angela said after she had composed herself, “but I have to go. I have to go get everything ready so that I can get back to New York and possibly still have an employer.”
“Thanks Ang. Good luck with everything and I will see you later.”
After Angela had left, Ally called her mom and her boyfriend Ryan back in New York to tell them the good news. Her family was ecstatic, especially Ally’s two older brothers and little sister, but when she called Ryan, he seemed more interested in ESPN than his girlfriends’ amazing achievement. When Ally hung up with Ryan she just shrugged it off and pulled her light brown hair into a ponytail and laced up her tennis shoes before going running to clear her head.
“Hey AJ,” Nick called from the dressing room upon seeing his group mate’s reflection walk by in the mirror early Thursday morning.
“Nick? You’re here already?” AJ replied, pivoting around to talk to Nick. “What is this? Nick Carter isn’t late for a television appearance. What is the world coming to?”
“I’m not sure,” Kevin answered from his dressing room, which was across from Nick’s. “He was even here before I was.”
“All right Nick. Spit it out. What’s going on?” AJ asked.
“Nothing really.”
“Cut the crap Carter,” Brian called. He had just gotten off the elevator and was walking down the hallway towards the group. “See guys, our friend Frack here is going to be playing Sean Turner in Dimension Films newest romantic drama. Now isn’t that just the cutest thing you ever did see?” Brian asked in a mock Southern belle accent.
“You’re not serious, are you?” Kevin asked as he walked out of his dressing room. “We are recording in three months.”
“And, I’ll be there.” Nick defended.
“You better be there,” Kevin warned.
“Or we all have permission to kick your ass.” AJ chimed in jokingly.
“Who is kicking whose ass now?” Howie asked nearly tripping out of his dressing room to stop what he thought was a fight in progress.
“We are, if Nick isn’t here to begin recording in three months.” AJ declared eyeing Nick fore warningly. Nick eyed AJ right back with his famous, “don’t cross that line” look.
“Why wouldn’t Nick be here?” Howie asked. It was obvious that he had missed the entire conversation.
“Because, he is going to starring in a romantic drama.” Brain ooed.
“Have you cleared this with management?” Kevin sternly asked Nick.
“No Kevin, I am just gonna put myself in breach of contract so that I can throw myself into something that I haven’t ever tried before and will probably suck at for fun.” Nick rolled his eyes. “As surprising as this sounds to you, the first thing that I did before I even thought about auditioning for this movie was clear it with management. As long as I am back in three months, everything’s fine. Any more questions?” Nick said in a sarcastic tone.
“All right, enough of this,” called a cameraman who had overheard most of what was being said. “You have 2 minutes until the entire United States sees you. Now you can either be ready, or not.”
“Sorry sir, we’ll all be right there.” Kevin said as he gave the other four members of the BSB looks that meant, “get it done NOW.”
The appearance wrapped an hour later and Nick sustained more kissing noises and fake pillow talk until he was sitting on the couch of his LA apartment flipping through the channels with the remote control and basically, relaxing until his meeting at the Hilton four hours later.
"I hope that you have a decent flight Ang. Thanks for coming with me. God only knows how it would have turned out otherwise." Ally said as she pulled up to the outside entrance to the airport in her ’93 Jeep Cherokee.
"It was nothing. Besides, I got to go to California for a few days. You know, catch up on my tan, learn how to surf...ah, anyway, I'll call you when I get in."
"You'd better." Ally said as she gave her friend a hug. Angela got out of the car and shut the door.
"I'll see you soon. Good luck with everything and congratulations," Angela shouted as she walked through the entrance.
Ally re-started her car, rolled up her windows, and made her way through rush hour traffic to the Hyatt on Broadway and Santa Monica for her 3:00 meeting.
