Chapter Three

At exactly 3:00, Ally was walking through the door of a conference room, which was set in a stage setting. She took a seat towards the back of the room and began reading through the contract she had been handed when she walked through the door.

At that same moment, Nick was looking uncomfortably around the room for a “friendly face” to sit next to before the meeting started. While he was scanning the room, a young, attractive brunette sitting in the back of the room caught his eye. Quietly, he made his way over to the seat next to her and sat down. Preparing to introduce himself, he cleared his throat causing the girl next to him to jump.

“Oh my God, you scared me,” Ally said as she looked over at the person who had caused her to jump. A pair of piercing blue eyes and a mop of blond hair met her gaze.

Nick sat somewhat gawking at the girl who he had startled. He was a little surprised at how beautiful she really was. Ally, who was slightly confused by the expression on his face, decided to introduce herself.

“Hi, I’m Ally Parker,” she established. Ally knew who the person was sitting beside her, but she thought she would give him a chance to introduce himself.

Nick snapped out of his temporary state “My name is…” Before he could finish his statement a second girl about his age with short blond hair and slightly hazel eyes interjected. “He’s Nick Carter, from the Backstreet Boys. Are you stupid or something?” She asked looking coldly at Ally.

Before Ally could respond, Nick had already taken the floor. “She was just introducing herself, is there a problem with that?”

“Well, no…” the girl said. She paused. “Oh forget about it,” she said before giving Nick a flirty smile and walking away.

“I am just guessing, but you’ve done that a couple times?” Ally asked with a small laugh.

“No kidding.” Nick said laughing. He was immediately drawn into Ally’s easy-going personality. “I’m sorry about that. Most fans aren’t like that.”

“Oh, I know. My best friend Angela went to your concert last month in New York and came back with like, five other new best friends. She says that Backstreet Boys’ concerts are the only place where she can go and find people who are completely like her. Sorry for bringing it up if you don’t want to talk about it.”

“No, that’s fine really. It’s better than hearing “Backstreet Boys suck”. I take it that you aren’t a fan?” Nick questioned.

“I’m more of a Green Day, Nirvana type of person, but, I respect you very much as artists and think that unlike some people out there, you have talent.”

“Nirvana,” Nick said with a smile. “At least you have some taste in music.”

“Hey,” Ally said laughing.

“I’m just kidding.” Nick surrendered. “Well, anyway, I am glad that I met you when I did. You’re playing Keri Walker, right?”

“Yeah,” Ally answered. Before their conversation could progress any further, the director walked over to the microphone on the stage and began the meeting. Nick smiled at Ally and then the two of them turned towards the stage and began listening to the director’s speech.

“My name is Mike O’ Connor,” he began. “I will be directing Dimension Films newest romantic drama Sometimes Love Stumbles. I would like to take this time to introduce everyone and go over a brief synopsis of the movie before handing out scripts and signing contracts. Sometimes Love Stumbles is about two college roommates who both go through tough breakups around the same time. In order to ease the pain, they decided to take a break for a week and go up to the mountains with two other roommates. During this week, love connections are made and people are hurt, but in the end, the two realize that they are meant for each other. A side note. In order to save a little bit of money, we are requesting that all actors and actresses stay in the cabin that we rented for the movie instead of a hotel. Okay, on to the introductions. First of all, we have Nick Carter playing Sean Turner, one of the roommates going through a tough breakup. The other roommate is going to be played by Ally Parker as the role of Keri Walker.” Nick looked over at Ally, who was busy fidgeting with her necklace, and was relieved that he had met at least one nice person that day.

The director continued through the list until he reached the last name on his list: “Rachel Bernile.” When Ally looked up to see which face fit that particular name, she noticed that it belonged to the same girl whom she and Nick had met only minutes earlier.

“Oh, how wonderful,” Nick said under his breath.

“I couldn’t agree more,” Ally responded through clenched teeth.

“Rachel will be Kirsten Elliot. She will be playing the typical won’t-stop-at-anything-until-she-has-Sean Tuner-for-herself type,” the director finished.

“Haha,” Ally whispered in Nick’s direction.

“It’s really not that funny,” Nick defended.

“Oh yes it is,” Ally taunted as both she and Nick stood up and began addressing the rest of the cast.

Hours later, Ally found herself sitting in the hallway of the hotel taking a sip out of her bottle of water and looking over the script which she was supposed to memorize in two weeks.

“Man do I feel sorry for you,” Ally heard someone say. She looked up to see a face that she didn’t recognize.

“Why’s that?” Ally asked with a smile.

“Look at all those lines. I thought it was bad enough getting a small role, but damn. If I had to memorize all those lines, I would probably go crazy. My name’s Matt Taylor. I’m going to be playing one of the roommates.”

“It’s nice to meet you Matt.” Ally said sincerely.

“Thanks, you too. So, what are you doing out here?” Matt questioned.

“I finished signing contracts so I decided to take a break for a while. What about you?”

“Same here. It’s kinda sad, huh?”

“About what?” Ally inquired.

Matt slid down the wall until he was sitting next to Ally. “Well, here we are, taking a break after listening to people talk for a few hours but in a couple weeks, we aren’t even going to have time to breathe. How are we going to survive working on a movie?”

“I’m not sure, but now that you bring it up, that is kinda pathetic.” Seconds after she had finished her statement, Ally saw Nick coming out of the door and walk down the hallway in the opposite direction. “Nick,” she called.

Nick spun around at the sound of Ally’s voice. He felt a pang of jealousy when he saw that she was sitting next to another guy, but quickly brushed it off, as he had only met Ally 3 hours ago, and walked down the hall to join them.

“Nick, this is Matt Taylor, he’s going to be co-starring with us. Matt this is Nick Carter.”

“Nick Carter,” Matt said more to himself than to the other two. “Oh, I thought I recognized you.” Matt stood up to formally shake hands with Nick. “My girlfriend loves you.”

“That’s good to know,” Nick said, half-smiling. Ally, who was still sitting on the floor, could tell by the tone of Nick’s voice that he had heard a lot of that today.

There was a short pause before Nick broke the silence. “Is anyone else hungry?”

“I don’t think that hungry is the right word for it.” Ally answered. “I am starving. What are you getting at?”

“Do you guys want to go grab a burger or something? I mean, it would be a good opportunity for us to get to know each other before we start filming and I think I saw an In and Out Burger about 10 minutes from here.” Nick suggested.

“Sounds good to me,” Ally commented.

“I’m game,” Matt answered.

“If neither of you want to drive, I don’t mind.” Nick offered.

“As long as you don’t drive like Angela, that’s fine with me.” Ally said attempting to stand.

Nick held out his hand for Ally to use for support as she tried to get up. Both Nick and Ally blushed a bit when they realized that they were holding each other’s hand. “Thanks,” Ally said as the group of three turned and walked out of the hallway on their way to In and Out Burger.
