Prologue

It’s been a year since last I saw this place.  I wondered around looking at all the things I knew that created flashes of memories from the past.  I passed through the clearing where the young gallant had appeared like a dream.

My heart yearned for my dear friends.  I missed the counsels, the lessons.  Though we taught each other I felt that I had learned the most from them.

I went to her old dwelling and was pleased to find her there.  She sat on a pile of logs, which she had obviously stopped to read a book, which she held tenderly in her hands.  She was just as she had always been…nothing changed.  She had her back to me and I just stood there hiding, watching.  I wouldn’t speak to her and she didn’t see me.

I believe a tear fell down her cheek with a memory that tore her from her book.

“Ori…” She spoke softly toward no one…except my spirit.  “Why did you leave me?”

A tear rolled down my cheek in response to hers.  I whispered softly knowing she would never hear me.  “I didn’t.  I’ve always been with you.”

She smiled softly as if she had heard me though I knew she hadn’t.  I left shortly after.  I may have left in body but my spirit, my soul remains…and always will…
