It was a huge house, with a great spot away from the other houses and right on ther lake.
“I’m glad we got here before dark or else we would’ve never found our way through all those twists and turns off the main road,” Tracy commented as we took our bags inside.
There were three bedrooms upstairs. I took the one with a queen sized bed and Tracy picked the one next to mine with a futon and the best view of the lake.
“I’m starving! I hope Heather gets here soon with some food,” I looked through the cabinets for a glass and got some water.
“Yeah, me, too. I wish it was warmer, so we could get into the water tomorrow,” she sat down at the kitchen table.
“Yeah, you and Kevin had a blast this summer.”
“What? Don’t even start with him…”
“Why can’t you admit that you still have feelings for him? Or make up with Jen so we could all four put in for a room transfer?” I said, frustrated.
“That’ll never, ever happen.”
“Hey, guys!” Heather walked in, carrying a cooler. Jen walked in after her.
“What’s she doing here?” Tracy narrowed her eyes.
“Um… I invited her, duh,” Heather said brightly. “I have a present for both of you that I want to give you tomorrow for Christmas.”
“Forget it,” Tracy said. “I knew I should’ve gone home for Christmas…”
“Tracy, chill. Look, just act civilized until tomorrow at least. If Heather went to all the trouble to get you out here, it must be something really good.”
She paused. “Fine,” she said finally.
