Chapter 58

~Tracy’s point of view~
“Hey, D, I’m making dinner, you want anything?”

I’d gotten home from the store and dried the kitchen floor that had been covered with water.
“No thanks.”
“But you haven’t eaten anything all day! At breakfast you barely had two bites! And you’ve been watching TV since then!” “I’m just not hungry.”
“Look, maybe you should just talk to Jennifer. Then you’ll get over it a lot quicker. I haven’t thought about Kevin all day.”
“That’s because you’ve intentionally kept yourself busy,” Howie pointed out.
“No I haven’t. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a chicken casserole to make. Oh, and I think some cookies would make a good dessert.”

Kevin was in the kitchen getting a drink when I returned.
“Don’t touch the Coke, I bought it,” I commanded.
“Fine. You don’t need to be so rude,” he rolled his eyes.
“Your right. How dare I? I mean, your such a perfect angel!”
“I didn’t say that! Ya know what, I’m glad we’ve broken up. I was getting sick of you. I’ve got plenty of hot, female fans who would actually appreciate me! I don’t know why I wasted my time with you!” he stormed out of the room.
“Good!” I screamed, but that’s not what I was thinking.

~Howie’s point of view~

I’d been watching the TV for hours, waiting for at lest one decent show to come on. It hadn’t happened yet. I’d been wrong thinking I was missing something while touring for long periods at a time.

I heard someone coming down the stairs. It was Jennifer.
“Look, Howie, I think we need to talk.”
“It’s a little late,” I said, as calmly as I could.
“I know I’ve been avoiding you all day… but I wanted to give you some time to chill out so we could talk about this rationally. And I wanted to think of what to say to you… so maybe I wouldn’t screw up all the words.”
“I’ve been thinking about it, too. I can’t trust you anymore. And I don’t know that I ever will again. And I can’t date someone I can’t trust. So I guess we don’t have anything else to talk about.”
“But… Howie, you can’t be serious!”
“Well, I am.”
She paused a second. Her eyes tearing up. “D, I love you.”
That took me off guard. “I thought I loved you too. But I guess I was wrong.” I couldn’t make eye contact when I said that. I kept looking at the TV screen.

She sat there for a minute and finally left.
