Chapter 5

There wasn’t anymore talk of Nick and Brian for the next few months. I was glad. I felt bad about lying to Heather about getting letters and keeping in contact with Brian, but I didn’t know what else to say at the time. I guess I was jeolous. We had been best friends and her and Nick barely knew each other and she got bunches of mail from him…But she had probably forgotton I had ever told her I liked him in high school.
“Concentrate, Erin!” I interrupted my own thoughts. I was in my room trying to study for my science end of the year exam. I flipped on the radio. Boyz 2 Men just went off.
“And now we have a song from a band new to the U.S, but famous around the world. This Orlando based group has been touring in Europe and Canada, and now finally back home to the United States. This is “We’ve Got It Going On” by the Backstreet Boys.” Kasey Kassum said on “Kasey’s Top 40.” Music started playing.
“The who?” I said to myself, and got up to find another station as soon as the lyrics started.
“We’ve been waiting so long, just can’t hold it back no more. Creeping up and down now it’s time for me to let it go-ah.”

Why was that voice so familiar? It sounded like...Brian! Nah, couldn’t be. Could it? I listened to the whole song. I still wasn’t quite sure whether it was him or not.
“That was AJ, Kevin, Howie, Nick, and Brian with “We’ve Got It Goin On” rising two notches to number 7.” The announcer came on again and I turned off the radio. It had said Nick and Brian! It was them! And the group sounded so awesome! I went out to the living room where Tracy and Jennifer were watching t.v.
“Have you guys heard the new song ‘We’ve Got It Goin On’?” I asked.
“Nope, why?” Tracy asked.
“Its by the Backstreet Boys! Ya know, the group Brian and Nick are in.”I told them.
“Really? Cool! I’ve been wanting to hear their new single! What number are they?” Tracy asked.
“Seven.” I replied.
“Yes! The single is up there! That means..” Tracy began, but stopped suddenly. “Uh, they’re doing well!”

That’s when Heather came in the door. “Now that school will be over for the summer in a week, want to go to the beach? We could all use a vacation!”
“Yeah sure.” We all agreed.
“If I can manage enough money. The hotels are expensive!” I added.
“We’re staying in a beach house and its for free. One of my friends knows the owner of it.” She replied.
“Really? Cool.” I said.

~Nick’s point of view~
“Excited about our concert in Virginia Beach?” I asked Brian.
“Yeah, it’ll be nice to get back to the U.S! I’m glad the single is doing well enough we can start touring over there!"he replied.
“You don’t know HOW good that is!” I said, thinking about who we were meeting there. I hadn’t told him anything, since Heather told me she wanted to keep it a surprise for both of them. I couldn’t believe she still liked him! And I was pretty sure he missed her, too. He talked about her a lot when we first came to Florida to start the band, and hadn’t had any serious relationships since. Sure that was two years ago, but he was still the same person. So this would be easy! We were going to somehow get them to dinner or something the night of the concert and let them take it from there.
"Are we staying at your aunt's beach house? I love that place!" he interrupted my thoughts.
"Nope, sorry. She's..renting it to someone else the week we're going to be there." I told him.“So have you gotton a letter from Erin lately?” I asked, wanting to see what he’d say about her. “Oh, yeah. I got one last week. She’s doing great!” he studdered, and flashed a sorta weird smile. I didn’t worry too much about it. "Well we better start packing. The plane doesn't leave til day after tomorrow but we've got a photo shoot and an autograph signing all day tomorrow." he said.
