Chapter 49

~Erin’s point of view~
Right after I left the kitchen I saw Jennifer looking up the stairs holding up 5 fingers. I assumed she was telling someone 5 minutes. I needed to hurry up and get into my spot.
Jennifer went upstairs, probably to get ready to go. And Brian walked downstairs, confirming more of my suspisions. He was carrying his car keys.
“Where are you going?” I asked, already knowing the answer.
“Oh, just cruising around.”
“Can I come with you?”
He paused. “Nope. Sorry. Not until I figure something out first, okay? I promise, I’ll explain eventually. Bye,” Brian gave me a quick peck on the cheek, and then departed out the front door.
I went upstairs. Jennifer had changed into a white short and black skirt and was putting on a nice pair of earrings.
“Hey, Jen, where you going?” I asked.
“Oh, just getting some dinner,” she said, walking towards the door.
“Oh, can I come? I’m starving!” I told her.
“Uh… maybe next time,” she answered. “I just need some alone time, you know? Well, I’m gonna say good bye to Howie.”
“Hey, wanna watch a movie?” Tracy asked.
I noticed she was on her bed, reading a book. “No thanks. Maybe tomorrow.” I quickly left the room to beat Jennifer to the car.

~Brian’s point of view~
“So, Nick, what’s with the cologne?” I asked, grabbing my car keys from our room. “Going somewhere special?”
“Yeah, actually,” he turned a shade of red.
“Really? Well, I’m intrigued. Where?”
“Pizza Hut,” Nick responded.
“Oh, of course. What was I thinking? I always wear my finest cologne when going for pizza!” I joked.
“I’m going with Heather.”
“Ohhh… like on a date?”
He shrugged. “Not really.” He told me the conversation that had taken place. I smiled. Erin no doubt trying to set them up. Hopefully, it would work.
“Then you know what your gonna do tonight, right?” I wanted to make sure.
“What?”
I smacked him lightly in the back of the head. “Tell her you like her, dummy. Duh!” My best friend could sometimes be totally impossible.
“I wouldn’t know what to say…”
“Frack, trust me. When the time is right, the words’ll come to you, okay? Have a good time,” I headed for the stairs. Kevin was at the top, looking down at Jennifer who was signaling that she was leaving in five minutes. I ran downstairs. When opening the door, Erin came out. She was wondering where I was going. I spoke to her briefly and then kissed her good-bye. I’d already asked Howie if I could borrow his car, which he’d gone for and brought over the other day. I headed for the gas station.

~Nick’s point of view~
“Okay, Nick,” I spoke to my reflection in the mirror. “Just breathe. Relax. And tell her how you feel.” I reassured myself. I walked into her room. Tracy was reading something and Heather was grabbing her jacket.
“It’s the middle of summer,” I teased.
“So? I get cold!”
“Uh-huh. You ready to go?” I asked.
“Yup. See ya, Tracy,” we went outside and hopped into my car.
