~Erin's point of view~
The next morning, I went downstairs to find most everyone awake.
"About time you woke up," Brian mentioned, as I sat down beside him on the couch and he wrapped his arms around me.
"I didn't even think you'd notice, what with your Nintendo working and all," I shot back.
"Me? Get sucked into the childish media of videogames? Never!" he faked a look of shock.
"What do you say we get our first date in tonight?" I asked.
He paused. "Um, I would, but I've gotta go somewhere," he looked around the room nervously. At Amy and AJ in the love seat and Jennifer on the recliner.
"Where's that?" I wondered.
"Nowhere important," Brian shrugged. "You want anything for breakfast?" he offered, getting up and heading for the kitchen. I shook my head no. I saw Jennifer look up and head in the same direction.
"Hey, Erin, could you get my purse?" Amy asked. "We're going shopping."
"Sure, where is it?"
"Dining room," she responded.
"Alright," I left my spot on the couch.
Approaching the dining room, I heard voices from the kitchen.
"Tonight? Dinner? Okay, that's fine," I heard Jennifer whisper. "Just don't let anyone find out- especially your girlfriend. I'll meet you a few blocks from here okay? At the gas station parking lot. It'll look weird if we leave together."
"Sounds good," a male voice responded. It almost sounded like Brian. But it couldn't be, could it? I ducked behind the table just as Jennifer walked out. Then, sure enough, a minute later, so did Brian. I heard him go upstairs.
He was cheating on me with Jennifer! That explains her being weird with Howie. And why she was acting shy around me. And even why Brian was blowing me off lately.
I thought back to a few weeks prior at the beach. How he'd asked Jennifer out but she was going with Howie. He'd lied, he hadn't gotten over her.
But I needed proof. I'd follow them to dinner tonight and catch them in the act.
~Brian's point of view~
"About time you woke up," I said, as Erin finally came down the stairs that morning.
"I didn't even think you'd notice, what with your Nintendo working and all," she did a comeback as always.
"Me? Get sucked into the childish media of videogames? Never!" I laughed.
"What do you say we get our first date in tonight?" she asked.
I paused. I had to follow Kevin and Jennifer tonight. And I didn't want to tell anyone my suspisions until I knew for sure. If I was wrong, it could jepordize two relationships for no reason. "Um, I would, but I've gotta go somewhere," I looked around the room nervously. I didn't want to even discuss it around Jen, she might catch on that I knew something about her and Kevin.
"Where's that?" was her next question.
"Nowhere important," I shrugged. "You want anything for breakfast?" I changed the subject, getting up and heading for the kitchen. She shook her head no.
Just as I was heading for the kitchen, I noticed Kevin come down the stairs. Jennifer probably saw him. He motioned for her to meet him in the kitchen.
Thinking quickly, I went into the kitchen and hid under the table. I crawled to the far corner, hoping they wouldn't notice me.
"We're still on for dinner tonight, right?" Kevin whispered to her, once they appeared.
"Tonight? Dinner? Okay, that's fine," I heard Jennifer whisper back. "Just don't let anyone find out- especially your girlfriend. I'll meet you a few blocks from here okay? At the gas station parking lot. It'll look weird if we leave together."
"Sounds good," my cousin responded to her. He left the way they had come in and Jennifer left through the other door, that led to the dining room.
I waited a minute and then headed out the same way as Jennifer. I'd be at that gas station tonight. Maybe I was wrong. Kevin wasn't the type to do this sort of thing. And niether was Jennifer. Right?
