Chapter 21

I told her I was going to miss her, but I doubt she’d ever know how much. ‘Why didn’t I tell her I had feelings for her? Now I’d probably never get the chance!’ I thought, miserably. That was the only thing in my mind all the way to the airport. I’d be the only one at the photo shoot without someone. Amy and AJ and been dating for months. Howie and Jen and Tracy and Kevin had been for about week. And it was only a matter of time til Heather and Nick hooked up, there’s no doubt about that. I’d be alone.

I sat in the lobby waiting for them to call my flight. I had already put my luggage on the rack. Nothing left to do but wait.
“Now calling flight 22,” I heard the intercom say.
“This is it,” I said to myself. I grabbed my bookbag and started for the door.

I got in the jeep. ‘Time to drive home alone.’ I thought. I began to pull out. Left was the way back home. Right was the way to the airport.

I checked the clock in the car. The plane took off in 15 minutes. It was a twenty minute drive there, so even if I tried I couldn't, but...

I went to the right. Speeding the entire way. “Hurry up!” I yelled to cars at an intersection. “Beep!” I honked the horn. I was gonna miss the plane… I sped through a redlight as someone gave me the finger. Not the greatest driving I had ever done, but this was important!

Finally the airport was in sight. I parked the car and ran to the entrance. Four minutes in counting left.
“Shoot! What flight?” I wondered. I checked the schedule. “22.” I confirmed.
“Last call for flight 22.” The anouncer spoke.
“Perfect,” I muttered. Flight 22 was at the other side of the building. I took off.

Of course, I had to get by the metal detector.

One minute left.
“Hey, watch it!” a lady called after I pushed past her.
“Sorry!” I called back, without time to stop.

Finally I got to where people had boarded for Flight 22.
“Hey,” I gasped, out of breathe. “I need to talk to someone who’s on the plane.” I told the flight attendant, manning the door.
“I’m sorry, the plane is getting ready to take off.”
“No! Isn’t there anyway to..to… stop the plane or something?” I asked.
“No, I’m terribly sorry.” She said.

I went over to the window. I saw the plane go down the runway…faster…faster… gaining speed… lifting off into the air… and flying away.
“I missed him.” I said to myself, sadly. "I'll never get to tell him..."
