Stars and Stripes Ice Bucket Designed & Decorated by Suzie Shinseki
Materials Needed:
- Aleene's® FoamtasticTM
- Aleene's® Premium-CoatTM Acrylics: OC 103 True Red
OC 173 White
OC 218 Electric Blue- Tulip ® Stick-Ease Stencils TM
- SL012 Design Your Own
- Aleene's® Premium-CoatTM Acrylics: OC 103 True Red
- Chenille stems from Darice (pipe cleaners)—red, white, blue, gold
- Galvanized wire, #19
- Glitter
- Metal bucket, 12-qt.
- 3/4" flat brush
- Sanding block or find sandpaper
- Styrofoam®: (2) 1-1/4" balls
& (4) stars from Dylite®- Utility sponge
- Vinegar
- X-acto™ knife
For best results, read all instructions before beginning project. Wash bucket in sudsy water; rinse. Dry. Sand outside to take off sheen; wash again. Dry. Mix equal parts vinegar & water & wipe mix on pail. Cure 2 days. Trace 2 lg, 2 med & 3 small star patterns on Design Your Own stencil. Cut out with X-acto knife. Cut (6) pieces wire approx 23" long & poke in Styrofoam stars & balls. Secure with Foamtastic. Dry. Paint stars & balls white. Dry. Paint stars (except 1) True Red & Electric Blue. Leave 1 White. Tie 2 pipe cleaners together; wind half around paint bottle & half around more narrow object like highlighter pen to curl. Brush small amount Foamtastic on centers of stars & around balls; sprinkle with glitter. Use sponge, base coat cured bucket white. Dry. Repeat process. Trace wavy stripe pattern on pail. Apply star stencils in area to be painted Electric Blue. Using brush, paint True Red stripes. Paint Electric Blue next to white stripes & sponge in remaining blue over star stencil. Use X-acto knife to lift up & remove stencil. Tie pipe cleaners, stars & balls in hole where handle joins pail. For protective finish, apply 1-2 coats of Matte Varnish.
