Pinecone Bird Feeders
Peanut butter (Birds prefer chunky over smooth but PLEASE read note at bottom of recipe)
Lg pinecones
shortening
Cornmeal
Birdseed (opt)
Fishing line
string/yarn
Wrap & tie string to top of pinecone. Mix peanut butter, shortening, (such as bacon fat or melted suet) & cornmeal. Spread mixture onto lg pinecone. Hang bird feeder in spot where you can watch birds eat. Note: If using smooth instead of chunky peanut butter, may want to mix a little bird seed for added interest and enjoyment.
DID YOU KNOW? Birds have trouble digesting peanut butter & it can get stuck in their beaks!! This is why bird experts recommend addition of shortening & cornmeal when preparing homemade birdfeeders of this type. Many thanks to John & Samantha for revising recipe accordingly.
