1972 GMC SPRINT PAGE

I have a few pics of my friend's 1972 GMC Sprint, but managed to borrow and scan the pics to build and construct another web page.  Most of the pics were taken at the ACES Chevelle-abration 1999, which was held during June 10-12, 1999.  Not too many GMC Sprints were built, and the first two years yielded low production #s.  More info can be found at Dan Carr's GMC Sprint Page.  The early Sprints can be considered a sister clone of the El Camino, and the SP package was the ultimate performance vehicle sold through a Pontiac/GMC (or GMC) dealer.  GMC produced a Syclone pickup in 1991 and 1992, along with the Typhoon, and not too many people know about the Sprint SP.

This page might be controversial, in which a non-Chevelle owner (even if considered a descendant of a former Chevelle or A-car owner) designed this website.  The Sprint originally came with a BB 402, which is long gone.  There are some early pics of the Sprint, which had a few revealing details.

The pickup is still under construction, and so is this page.  Here are several pics from Chevelle-abration 1999:

This pic should make Dan Carr proud.  The fender emblems were originally from a 1977 GMC Sprint (which were mounted in the B-pillar).  The only flaw in the pic is the placement of the GMC emblems on the fender (the bodyman drilled the wrong holes in the fender, instead of the usual spot near the bottom).

The rear shot.  The mist of orange was touched up during January 1999 (BC/CC), and a vinyl roof cover added before the ACES Chevelle-abration.

Here's the rearend shot.  The Sprint is on the trailer (in Friendswood, TX), ready to be displayed at ACES Chevelle-abration 1999 (dated 6/7/1999).

Interior shot (bench seat was reupholstered a week before the event)

Another interior shot (the LH door).  Note the spotless chrome and stainless trim.  Used vent cranks and door handles can be found at this site.

The powerplant (a 7.4/454 cid) Rat.  10:1 CR, GM HEI distributor, K & N filtercharger, Weiand intake, Edelbrock Performer carb (a Carter AFB clone). The A/C is non-functional at the moment.

A side shot (note the aftermarket headers).  Brake calipers, alternator, WW motor, air shocks, and battery cables are AutoZone items, exc. the radiator hoses.  Note the Holley cast aluminum valve covers.

Chuck Hanson, SSuper Dave, and Alan F (a.k.a. Mikense Brakeford).  There is a brief glimpse of the Sprint in the pic, next to SSuper Dave's 1968 Chevelle SS clone.  The above pic shows Dave's 1968 SS 396 clone, which started out as a $3900 special from a Granny.  The front end shot of the Sprint is seen, along with the 1968 SS clone.

Influences for the Sprint came from a Chevelle World article that had a feature 1972 Chevelle SS hardtop with a orange and white stripe exterior (article unknown).  The final product seen is based upon influences on the orange Chevelle SS seen in the October 1996 issue of Chevelle World.

Currently, the Sprint is incomplete, but needs a few upgrades before the vehicle is sold off.  The vehicle is still under construction, and NOT FOR SALE at the moment, but contact Alan Finley for more information, since I (the designer of this webpage) do not own the Sprint.

11/28/99 update:  the Sprint is currently advertised in Hemming's Motor News for $9000, but e-mail the owner for more information.  More information will be added soon.  This page was recently the winner of the BuzzeZ! Website Award, and click on the image below to cast a vote.

4/3/00 update:  the Sprint will be driven to the ACES Chevellabration in June 2000, instead of being trailered.  Currently, the Sprint is advertised in Hemmings (the asking price is $9000), but isn't ready for sale yet.

The following links below are the early pics of the Sprint, which started as a wrecked pickup back in 1996, and slowly rebuilt.  The pics on the front page are the current pics of the Sprint, which is now a show car, instead of a rust bucket.
