Winter of Contentment
This poem was written by my dear friend, Laura Rice
Music is: "What a Wonderful World"

Floating like confetti softly,
ever so softly in the ashen blackness of midnight,
the white little speckles came to rest in the silent village.

Each droplet preceded by another,
so that by dawn all eyes were focused
on previous black pavement and fading vegetation.

Icicles supended from gutters,
a frozen pond
and children frolicking in the white, cold confetti
meant one thing...
suspended animation, immobility.

This winter was clever.

Two previous Indian Summer days,
how subtle and discreet,
like a thief slipping into our lives while we slept.

Like a thief stealing our mobility.
Yet unlike a thief leaving beauty and silence scattered everywhere.

Spring, 1981

Winter

The wind blows cold and hard and the chill factor's minus zero
The trees have lost all their leaves and soon will be covered with snow.
As we begin a brand new season, we pause to reflect on it all,
It's through the hands of the Master, we enjoy each season in awe.

A Priceless Masterpiece

A silence fills the air as the snow covers the ground,
It falls so fast and furious, but never makes a sound.
In awesome wonder I watch as the Wintery scene unfolds,
Once more a masterpiece is painted, that can't be bought or sold.

A peaceful calm starts closing in,
As darkness begins and another day ends.
The stress and turmoil fought through the day,
Like a sundrenched snow, soon melt away.
With our hearts lifted high when the day is done,
We praise the Lord for another race won.

Remembering

I remember the long walks on a warm Spring day,
And gathering wild flowers for a bright bouquet.
Strolling the lake shore in the hot Summer sun,
Collecting pretty rocks just for fun.

Shuffling through the leaves in the crisp Fall air,
As they tumble to the ground all around the town square.
Stopping to make a snowman on a cold Winter day,
Remembering Spring will soon be here to melt the snow away.

Love you all, Donna
