Chapter 52
“Hey,” he replied then high-fived Nick. “What’s up?”
Nick said, “Nutttin? Ready to head out?”
“Let me go say goodbye.”
Katrina and Nick followed Brian to the nursery. Tonya was rocking Brian Thomas Littrell, Jr. Brian said goodbye and the guys headed for rehearsal. The guys were heading out back out on tour in support of their fifth album in a month.
“So how are you guys all adjusting?”
Tonya replied, “We are doing great except for some lost sleep, but who care when you’ve got this little guy.”
“True.”
“Are you ready to be married?”
“I think so…let me rephrase. I’m ready to be married to Nick. It’s the wedding I’m not so sure about. We are trying so hard to keep things quiet so the press doesn’t show.”
“Why do that?”
“What do you mean Tonya?”
“I mean make an announcement the wedding is taking place in Lexington in two weeks. Tell them it is in your home church then go forward with the original plan.”
“You know that just might work.”
Katrina shared Tonya’s suggestion with Nick. They decided to give it a shot. The invitations had not specified a location. They had already arranged for limos to pick up guests and bring them to the wedding location. Kat talked with her mom, who agreed to talk to the minister of their church.
A week and a half later they were at the Morgan house. Both families were there putting the final touches on the wedding plans. Dana had talked to the minister. He explained someone was using the Sanctuary for a wedding the following day. Dana talked to the couple and they agreed to be Nick and Kat’s cover. What better way to fake-out the press than to have the church being prepared for a wedding? Things were coming together.
“Mom why are you looking at me like that,” asked Katrina.
“Because I can’t get over the fact my girl is getting married,” replied Dana. They were enjoying the early morning together before everyone got up.
“Oh Mom.”
“Katrina I’m going say something to you while I have the chance. I am very proud of the woman you have become. You are doing what you love and are successful at it. You have opened your heart to someone. You are the person I always hoped you would be.”
“Thanks Mom. I wish Dad felt the same way.”
“He does.”
“Opps! Morning Dad.”
“Katrina I am proud of you. Even though you didn’t follow my plan, you made a better one. I was always worried you wouldn’t be able to take care of yourself. Now I see you can.”
“Thanks Dad,” said Katrina as she hugged her father.
“Come on Kat let’s wake these people up. We have things to do,” stated Dana.
“Nick come here,” yelled Kat.
Nick came running into the family room and exclaimed “What?”
“Watch. Entertainment Tonight is making an announcement about you. One guess what it is.”
“Wedding.”
All the women had been in the family room finishing the place settings for the wedding reception. Angel had turned on the TV and stopped to watch Entertainment Tonight. She got everyone’s attention when Nick’s picture appeared on the screen. Mary Hart said they had some late breaking news regarding the Backstreet Heartthrob.
“Shh! Listen,” requested Jane Carter.
“Welcome back. Come Saturday, the youngest Backstreet Boy will no longer be single. In a statement release today by the BSB’s spokeswoman, Nick Carter, 22, announced he will be marrying his long time girlfriend, 26 year old Katrina Morgan on Saturday. You may recall Katrina is a photographer on the staff of Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs’ magazine Notorious. The statement went on to say they were planning to wed in Lexington. Sources close to the couple say it is only logical they would get married in Ms Morgan’s home church. One source said they would then be heading someplace warm for the honeymoon.”
“Then they know more than I do,” said Kat.
“My brother still hasn’t told you where you are going on your honeymoon?”
“No!”
“Good for him,” said BJ with a laugh.
“And my dear I don’t know where you two are going,” replied Dana.
“Wait a minute you were the source mom?”
“Yes I was. And I didn’t lie. I said it would make sense to have the wedding at the church, but I didn’t say it would happen. Also I’m sure anywhere the two of you are together will be hot.”
“Mom,” cried Kat, Nick, and Lissa, before laughing.
Chapter 53
"Wake up doofus."
"Doofus. Lissa you really are pushing it."
"Hey it's your wedding day," exclaimed Melissa.
"I know," sighed Katrina.
"Well get up!!!"
"OK!"
"Oh man! I can't believe she is so calm," commented Love from the door.
"Really you would think this was a normal day for her," replied Beth.
"She is too weird for words," added Jennifer.
"And she can hear you," said Kat.
"Of course you can dear. Now please get up and dressed we need to get your ready for this wedding," said Dana Morgan walking into the room.
"Yes mom."
Meanwhile at the Wilson's house….
"Get up," shouted Brian as the other guys, Aaron included banged pots over Nick's head.
Shooting straight up in the bed, Nick shouted, "I'm awake!"
"You sure Bro," asked Aaron.
"Yes!!!"
"So what do you want to do for your last day of freedom," asked AJ.
"Marry Kat," said Nick grinning from ear to ear.
"Well that happens this evening. What do you want to do until then," prompted Brian.
"Basketball."
"Done," said Kevin.
"Mama Wilson," exclaimed Kat when the older woman walked into the Morgan Kitchen two hours later.
"Child you are glowing. I guess there is a reason for that?"
"Yep I'm marrying Nick."
"I suppose that would do it."
"Hey everyone," greeted BJ Carter as she entered the house followed by Jane, Leslie, and Angel Carter.
"Hello," greeted everyone.
"Kat we went to Lexington."
"Why?"
"Wanted to see the church you two are getting married in," said Angel.
"But Angel we aren't getting married in that church."
"We know silly but the press doesn't," said Jane.
"Oh good you delivered the present," stated Dana.
"We did."
"What present," asked Lissa.
"We got the young couple helping with the rouge some presents. We delivered them and talked to the press."
Leslie said, "Yeah and now they really think they've got the right place."
"Mom was great," added BJ. "She asked them to please respect you guys and your guests and not be too intrusive."
Everyone laughed and continued talking. Kat was fidgeting because they had practically tied her to a chair and forced her to have manicure. She kept saying she was not that fussy and girlie. Her mother said she would thank them years later when she saw the pictures.
"Boys it's about time you got home," RJ Wilson pretended to scold.
"It was a good game," defended Nick.
"I'm sure my daughter would not think it was a good enough reason to be late to the wedding."
"Oh I won't be late."
"No you won't…that's why we are here," said AJ wiggling his eyebrows.
"Just go get showered. Guys there is an extra shower in the guest house," ordered RJ.
They all separated and took showers. Once showers were done they got dressed for the ceremony. They were going casual. Although Kat loved seeing him in a tuxedo she just couldn't see Nick all formal where they were having their wedding. It was a tuxedo but without the tie and not all button up. Brian and Aaron were similarly dressed. Aaron, at 15, was as tall as Brian. They looked great. Brian and Aaron were Nick's best men. They were keeping the wedding party small. Beth and Lissa were Kat's attendants. Everyone else was just going to sit back and watch.
"Kat you look beautiful," whispered her mother.
"Thanks Mom. Are we ready? Where's Dad?"
"He's already there. We are going to go now."
"OK. Thanks guys."
"Sure. See you there sis."
Katrina watched all the women leave. She took a last look in the mirror then walked out of the house. Waiting outside was Raven. She rubbed the stallion's neck then mounted. She giggled thinking about the look Nick would have when she wasn't with the other ladies. She coaxed Raven to start walking.
"So they really wanted to get married in a field buy a cemetery," asked Sean Combs.
"It's were they first saw each other," answered Tonya Littrell from her seat in front of him.
"I think it's romantic," replied Love.
"It is," agreed AJ's girlfriend, Jena.
Kevin leaned over to Debbie and whispered, "I'm going to ask you something, but you have to promise not to react loudly."
"All right."
"Will you marry me?…Debbie?…Debbie?"
"You said to be quiet."
"I know, but I would like an answer."
"Only my dweeb future husband would ask me like this. Well I guess I have to marry you. No one else would put up with you."
"True," chuckled Kevin and kissed her. He reached in his pocket and slipped a ring on her finger.
"Oh Kevin," she whispered as she looked at the ring then at him. They both had tears in their eyes. They turned their attention to the front of the chairs.
The Minister led Nick, Brian and Aaron to the altar. It was just before dusk. The moms were seated. Melissa and Beth came down the aisle. Nick looked down the aisle and only saw James Morgan. He looked at Brian questioningly. Brian smiled and straightened his jacket. It was then they heard it. They looked in the direction of the sound. There she was coming up over the hill, Katrina galloping on Raven. She pulled up by her dad and dismounted. She could see Nick through the allusion material covering her head. He was smiling. He couldn't get over how amazing she looked. She was wearing basically the same thing she was wearing the first time he saw her. The silk was heavier so it wasn't see through. Her hair was down and her faced covered by some material but he could still make out her smile. Papa Wilson took Raven's reigns and Mama Wilson handed her the bouquet.
Kat took her father's arm and they started down the aisle. Before her father stepped away he lifted the material from her face and kissed her cheek. Kat turned to Nick and winked. They stood staring and smiling. Everyone chuckled when the Minister had to repeat himself to get an 'I do' from Nick. They were in their own world; everyone else only got to watch. They exchanged vows and rings. Nick kissed her so tenderly when the minister gave permission. He picked her up and spun her around causing her to squeal with laughter.
Chapter 54
.“Do you want to hurry,” asked Katrina.
“No. Let them all hurry over there,” replied Nick from his seat behind her on Raven. “Are you happy Mrs. Carter?”
“How could I be anything but?”
“You look so beautiful.”
“So do you and don’t argue with me. It’s our wedding day,” said Katrina and they both laughed.
They rode Raven over the Morgan’s place. A tent had been put up that morning beside the barn for the reception. A DJ was cranking up the music and the staff was bringing out the food as guests mingled. Nick and Katrina were spotted the second they came through the trees. Sean had arranged for another Notorious staff photographer to take pictures. They were pulled into the tent for the fun to begin as soon as they dismounted.
A receiving line was set up. Kat and Nick greeted everyone and invited them to sit and eat, the wedding party and families moved away from the tent to have the pictures taken. The couple had been adamant that they didn’t want everyone to wait for them to have the pictures taken. The guests should be having fun. The sunset behind the trees made a beautiful backdrop to photos that were taken in the field.
Once back in the tent, toasts were made to the couple. Aaron and Brian had everyone rolling with their toasts. Lissa and Beth had everyone tearing up with theirs. The cake was cut and much to the disappointment to some neither Kat or Nick shoved cake in the others face.
When it was time for the first dance, Kat took the microphone from the DJ and said, “Man I HATE talking into these things. Good thing he’s the entertainer in the family. I wanted everyone to know Nick had nothing to do with this choice of song. He sings his love to me all the time. He told me to pick the song and no it’s not Backstreet. It is a song by Jim Brickman. I know at least Kevin, Tommy and Dennis know whom I’m talking about. He is known for his piano and instrumental pieces. He does occasionally add lyrics to his songs. The song I chose has lyrics and they sum up how I feel about you Nick. So dance with me.”
The guests clapped as Nick led her to the dance floor. He pulled her into his arms and they stared at each other as the music started…
"It's not the flowers, wrapped in fancy paper
(chorus)
"In your arms, I found a strength inside of me
(chorus)
"You could offer me the sun, the moon,
(chorus)
The music faded and everyone watched in silence for a few moments as the couple continued to dance. No one wanted to break the moment. Then just as they had started they stopped and stared at each other. Finally it was too much for Aaron and Angel. They looked at each other and with a grin started clapping. Everyone followed suit. Kat and Nick encouraged everyone to join them as the DJ started the music again.
Later in the evening, Katrina was dragged to a chair and Nick, with a cheesy grin, pulled her garter off and shot it at the single guys in the room. One of the accountants at James Morgan’s firm caught it. When it came time to through the bouquet, a conspiracy was a foot. All of Kat’s friends put up a line of defense behind Melissa, with her none the wiser. Naturally, Melissa caught the bouquet. The blush of the two catchee's was priceless. They wound up dancing together the rest of the evening.
“So daughter are you ready to start you honeymoon,” asked Dana as she and James danced up the Nick and Katrina.
“I think we are. Even though I still have no clue where we are going.”
“Don’t worry Kitten we aren’t going very far. Let’s get everyone rounded up and say good-bye.”
Nick and Katrina made the rounds thanking everyone and saying good night. They went into the house and said final good-bye to the families. They laughed as they looked out the front door. AJ, Howie, Brian, and Kevin had covered Kat’s 4-Runner with condoms. Taking a deep breath and stealing a quick kiss, they ran out the door and into the vehicle.
“Hey Daddy,” greeted Kat as she hugged Brian. "Your Love"
By Jim Brickman
It's not the ring, I wear around my finger
There's nothing in all the world I need
When I have you here beside me, Here beside me"
"So you could give me wings to fly
And catch me if I fall
Or pull the stars down from the sky
So I could wish on them all
But I couldn't ask for more
'Cause your love is the greatest gift of all."
And in your eyes, there's a light to guide me
I would be lost without you
And all that my heart could ever want,
Has come true."
And I would still believe
You gave me everything
When you gave your heart to me."
