Chapter 28
“You’re awake.”
“Yep. Let’s get the boxes in. I know it’s late, but do you think they would let you pick up the puppies?”
“I will go get them in the morning. Let’s get your stuff put away and order dinner. We will get the rowdy bunch tomorrow.”
“OK. We also need to go to the store and get food.”
They carried all her boxes in the house. Nick ordered pizza while Kat started unpacking. He then called both sets of parents to let them know the couple had arrived home safely. He also made plans to play basketball the next day with Brian. At midnight they fell into bed, exhausted.
“Excuse me,” said a girl no more than 14. Nick and Katrina were standing in aisle 4 of the grocery store picking out cereal.
“Yes,” replied Nick.
“Are you Nick Carter?”
“Yep.”
“I love your music! Can I have your autograph?”
“Thanks and sure. What’s your name,” asked Nick taking the paper and pen from the girl.
“Ashley.”
Nick wrote a quick note and signed it. He kissed her cheek as he gave her the paper and pen. The girl blushed then looked at Kat.
“Are you his girlfriend?”
“Yes I am,” answered Kat.
The girl smiled and said, “You’re pretty.”
Kat blushed, “Thank you. So are you.”
“Naw. I’ve got braces and stuff.”
“No Ashley. Kat is right you are pretty. Inside and out.”
“Thanks,” said the girl. She wandered back to her mom with the biggest grin.
Kat kissed Nick.
“What was that for,” asked Nick.
“Just cause you are wonderful and sweet.”
“Awww shucks,” said Nick with a grin. “Let’s get the rest of the food and then get the kids.”
“Our kids,” laughed Kat.
An hour later they were pulling into the gate. The barking could be heard throughout the neighborhood.
“Puppies hush,” scolded Nick.
“Oh that worked,” laughed Kat.
Nick pouted, “Well they are excited.”
“I know baby. I’m just teasing you. Just park the car. We will let them out then.”
Nick pulled the Durango in garage. Kat got out and opened the back of the vehicle. She was knocked to the ground by 5 very excited dogs. She laughed as they jumped on her and licked her face.
“Willie, Mikey, Nicky, Houston, Rocky get off Kat,” yelled Nick. He tried to help Kat up instead she pulled him down beside her.
“That’s right kids show daddy how much you missed him,” laughed Kat.
“All Right! I missed you too,” laughed Nick while the dogs continued their loving assault.
“Come on kid’s go outside,” Kat said as she managed to stand up, pulling Nick with her.
The dogs followed them outside and started exploring. Once the dogs were occupied, Nick and Kat carried in the groceries and dog food. Kat was putting away the food when Nick kissed her good-bye and went to play b-ball with Brian. Kat let the puppies in then marinated a roast. She went into the bedroom and grabbed their laundry to start. She sat down at the kitchen table with her laptop. That’s where Nick found her when he returned from basketball with Brian in tow.
“Honey I’m home.”
“Hey you. Hi Brian.”
“Hi Kat. What smells so good?”
“Well it’s not you two,” giggled Kat.
“Smart Ass,” retorted Nick before hugging her.
“Yep. To answer your question Brian, it’s a roast. Want to stay for dinner?”
“Well Tonya is at home,” answered Brian
“Call her. I haven’t seen her since the AMA’s.”
“Do you have enough?”
“Yes B so call Tonya.”
“OK.”
“And tell her to bring you a change of clothes.”
“Fine. I can take a hint,” said Brian as he stuck his tongue out. He grabbed the phone and called Tonya.
“As for you Mister, there is a shower upstairs with your name on it.”
Nick whispered, “Come with me. I did get you all sweaty.”
“Not gonna happen Carter. It would be rude to leave Brian down here.”
“OK. I’ll be back in a minute. Dinner does smell good,” commented Nick.
With one last kiss he headed to their room. Brian and Kat talked while she finished dinner. Tonya arrived just as Nick came down the hall clean from his shower. Brian took his shower and changed into clothes Tonya brought. The two couples sat out on the patio, enjoying the meal and each other’s company. They watched the sun go down, before going inside to watch a movie Tonya had picked up on her way over. Brian and Tonya left at about 11 that night.
Kat came out of the bathroom in one of Nick’s big T-shirts. She crawled into bed beside Nick. He pulled her to him and kissed her. She looked into his eyes. They were so blue.
“Thank you,” said Nick.
“You’re welcome, but for what,” asked Kat.
“For fixing dinner and inviting our friends. Hey do you realize what we did?”
“What?”
“We entertained for the first time in our home.”
Kat sighed, “Our home. I like that.”
“Me too. I love you Kitten.”
“I love you Nicky.”
After they made love Kat lay snuggled in Nick’s arms. She was home. Nick had given her a home. She couldn’t be happier.
Chapter 29
"Surprise!"
Nick removed his hands from in front of Kat's eyes. She blinked to make sure she wasn't dreaming. She wasn't, there was a crowd of friends and family standing in front of her. She was completely surprised.
"Kat say something," teased her father.
"Hi everyone," she greeted.
"Happy birthday sweetie," said her mother hugging her.
"Thanks. But how did..." started Kat.
"Nick," replied her best friend, Beth.
Kat turned to him. "You?"
Nick smiled, "Hey! I am capable of planning a surprise party."
"Apparently so," said Kat before kissing him.
"All right enough of the that," chided Papa Wilson. "Let's start this party."
"Thanks everyone for coming. I really appreciate it. I wish I had my camera with me."
"Actually, I thought you might say that," replied Nick. "I put your camera bag in the car. Will someone go get it?"
"I will Frack," offered Brian and Nick tossed him the keys.
Later, Nick watched Kat. She was having the time of her life. She was posing everyone and taking pictures. He couldn't wait to give her the special present he had received. His thoughts were interrupted by his mother.
"Nick you did a great job of pulling this off."
"Thanks Mom. She looks so happy."
"That she does. Shall we gather everyone and have her open her presents?"
Nick agreed and got everyone's attention. They gathered around the table with the presents. The appropriate amount of ooohhhh's and aaaahhh's were said after each gift was opened. Finally, every present on the table was opened. Kat again thanked everyone. Nick decided it was time to share his
two special presents.
"Katrina you are not done with presents yet," he stated.
"I'm not?"
"Nope. There are two more presents for you."
"OK," hedged Kat. "What are they?"
"Well the first one has a story attached to it. Remember when we went to Puffy's party? You took pictures that night and sent them to him. He was interviewed by Ebony Magazine. Puffy showed them your pictures. They decided to do a photo layout of the party. Here is your check."
Kat just stared at the check handed her. She couldn't believe it. "Which issue?"
"The June issue."
"Wow," whispered Kat. "I need to thank him."
"You can do that tomorrow. Now for the second present...my present."
"Nick you didn't have to get me anything. The party is amazing."
"Hush. This is your 25th birthday a party was required. My present is different and your family helped me. Here's a hint."
Nick handed her a snap shot. After looking at it she said, "Heaven Sent Stables? Nick! Are we going riding? Oh thank you. Even though it won't be Raven I will love just being able to ride."
Lissa spoke, "who said it wasn't Raven?"
"What sis?"
"Kitten they brought Raven down here and helped me find a stable for him."
Kat squealed and jumping up from her seat she wrapped her arms around Nick. Everyone clapped. Kat pulled back with tears in her eyes. Nick rubbed noses with her then gently kissed her. She was floating. Nick went on to explain that the Wilson's had also sent a horse for Nick. They could go riding together. The DJ started the music and everyone danced and partied until 2 AM.
“Puppies we’re home,” called Nick as they entered the house. They were greeted by barking.
“Come on let’s go out,” said Kat. She stepped around Nick and led the dogs to the sliding glass door.
The puppies scurried outside and she turned to see Nick watching her. “What?”
“I’m just watching you. You had a good night?”
“Nicky I had a great time. I can’t believe how lucky I am.”
“Why?”
“Because I have you.”
“Kitten I’m the lucky one.”
“Baby will you let the puppies in? I want to get ready for bed.”
“Sure baby,” replied Nick.
Kat walked over and kissed him lightly on the lips before leaving the room. Nick went out and played with the puppies for a few minutes. Finally, they all came in. Nick stopped in the doorway of the bedroom. Candles were lit and the scent of vanilla filled the room. Kat watched him from the bathroom door as she waited from him to see her. Nick’s eyes came to rest on her. Kat had to suppress a giggle, because he looked so cute. His eyes got bigger as they swept over her body and he unconsciously licked his lips. Hunger was the right word to describe the look in his blue eyes when they locked with her green ones. Nick closed the distance between them and picked her up. He laid her gently on the bed.
“When did you get this” inquired Nick as his hands ran over her body, which was covered with a white lace teddy.
“Oh this old thing,” teased Kat. “Actually I bought it when I went shopping last week. You like?”
“Me likes,” mumbled Nick before capturing her mouth with his.
Kat sighed as Nick’s tongue explored her mouth. Her back arched when she felt his hands on her breast. He loved the way they filled his hands. She tangled her fingers in he hair as he moved his lips to her neck. He growled when she captured his earlobe between her teeth. Kat pulled at his dress shirt. Nick sat up on his knees. Undoing the cuffs of the shirt, he pulled both the dress shirt and the T-shirt over his head and threw them on the floor. He reached down and pulled both straps of the teddy off Kat’s shoulders. He didn’t stop until he had removed it. Again he was sitting between her legs. A grin spread across Nick’s face, as he’s eyes raked over her body, caused Kat to giggle. Nick silenced her by laying back down kissing her. He allowed her to roll him on his back. Kat teased Nick’s nipples then traced her fingers down to the front of his pants. She caressed him through his pants and was rewarded with a moan. She loosened his belt and undid his pants. He helped her get the rest of his clothes off. He then pulled her to straddle him. Kat positioned herself and allowed him to enter her. They sat like this, just looking at each other.
Nick whispered, “Do you know how beautiful you are?”
“I know you make me feel beautiful and loved.”
“I do love you Kitten.”
“I love you too. Oh Nicky,” sighed Kat as she leaned down and kissed him.
Nick moaned again as he felt her moving against him. She sat up and locked eyes with him again. She tightened around him causing him to arch up to her. He pulled her to him again and with growl rolled them so he was on top. Kat brought her legs up and around him and felt him enter her deeper. She moaned as she felt him pick up the pace. His thrusts into her steadily increase. He leaned down a captured first one nipple then the other. Kat arched, tangling her fingers in his hair and saying his name. He moved his hand to between them and teased her until she called out his name. She tightened around him both inside and out. Nick released into her as he called her name and pulled her tight against him. They were lost in the moment. Finally coming back to earth they reluctantly separated, but only enough for Nick to lay on his back and pull her to him. Kissing her softly on the lips, he brushed hair from her sweat-dampened face.
“Thank you for the best birthday ever,” Kat said. “I love you so much.”
“I love you too,” whispered Nick. They drifted off to sleep.
Chapter 30
“Guess what?”
“Hello to you too,” chuckled Nick. “What?”
“Hi,” giggled Katrina. “I’m shooting Puffy for Rolling Stone!”
“You’re kidding! Ah Kitten that’s great! When do you do it?”
“Well that’s the problem,” hedged Kat.
“What problem?”
“I am scheduled to fly up to New York to meet with Puffy and Rolling Stone the day before you get home. From there I go to Puffy’s house. They want the shoot to be in and around his home in East Hampton,” explained Kat and waited. “Nick say something.”
“I think you should do it,” said Nick, barely above a whisper. He was on tour in Europe with the Boys. While Kat had gone with him for a few dates she was now back at their house.
“You sure,” asked an equally quiet Katrina.
“Yeah. How long will you be gone?”
“Four days max. Nicky I’m so sorry.”
“It’s OK Kitten. So how are the kids?”
“They are all here in the office with me. Of course, Baby Nicky had to be in my lap. Do you want to talk to them?”
“Sure.”
Kat put the phone on speaker. All the dogs’ heads shot up when they heard Nick’s voice. Willie immediately started looking for him. Nicky sat up in Kat’s lap and figured out Nick was inside that funny shaped thing on the desk. She started sniffing the phone. Nick laughed when he heard the pup. His laughter caused all the dogs to start barking. Kat was laughing so hard she was crying. She finally told Nick to tell the kids good-bye then picking up the receiver and talked to Nick for a few more minutes. After saying good-bye to Kat, Nick stared at the ceiling above his hotel bed. Sighing, he decided to see what Brian was up to.
“Come in Nick. What’s going on,” asked Brian.
Walking in, Nick replied, “Nothing much B. Want to grab some lunch?
“Sure. Let me call Remo and get him and Billy to meet us downstairs. Want to eat in the hotel restaurant?”
“Sounds good.”
The guys didn’t have a show that evening. They had done a morning TV show earlier and were free for the remainder of the day.
Once the two friends were seated with bodyguards in tow, Brian finally asked, “OK buddy what’s wrong?”
“Why do you ask?”
“Gee, I don’t know. Maybe because you came to my room looking like someone had just shot one of your dogs. Or the fact that you haven’t been talking. Or…”
Nick half-smiled and said, “I get the picture B. I called Katrina.”
“And,” prompted Brian.
“And she won’t be there when I get home.”
“What,” asked an alarmed Brian. “What’s wrong? Did you two get in a fight? Is someone sick?”
“Whoa Brian! It’s nothing like that. She is shooting Puffy’s next layout in Rolling Stone.”
“Really? Wow! That’s great Nick. I bet Katrina’s excited. Oh wait…so that’s why she won’t be home. Come on Nick you know this is a great opportunity for her.”
“I know and I’m really happy for her, but…”
“But she won’t be there when you walk through the door.”
“Yeah. God B I miss her so much. I’ve been marking off the days until I see her again in my day-timer.”
“I know man. I really miss Tonya but you will get through it. When does she go? How long is she gone?”
“She flies to New York the day before we get home and will be gone four days.”
“Nick is that all?”
“Is that all?”
“Yes. Kat has been waiting two months for you to come home this time.”
“I know you’re right. I just wish she would be there when I open the door.”
“Well why don’t you give her a special welcome home,” asked Brian
“What do you mean?”
“Duh Nick! I mean plan a romantic evening for when she gets home. You know candlelight dinner and all.”
“That’s a great idea,” exclaimed Nick.
“Light bulb comes on,” joked Brian.
“Shut up man,” laughed Nick.
The couple was on its way early the next morning. They decided to stop in Jacksonville, then were back on the road again the following morning. They finally reached Tampa in late afternoon. Kat had driven the first half of the day and let Nick sleep. Now Nick pulled through the security gate and parked the car in the garage. He looked over at Kat. She had tilted the seat back and was curled up asleep. He brushed a curl off her face. She wrinkled her nose and shifted, but didn’t wake. Nick took their bags inside the house. He came back to find Kat grabbing a box to carry in.
