CLAUDIA AUGUSTA KOENIG GEORGE, nee Compton, 87,
of Aurora, IL, died on Aug. 11, 2004 of a pulmonary
embolism, born Aug. 30, 1916 in Ballinger, TX, to
Claude Augustus & Emma, nee Jones Compton; beloved
wife of the late Albert George Koenig (RHS teacher)
and Dr. William Wilson George, both of whom were
educators; loving mother of Claude A. (Patricia)
Koenig of Bartlett, Robert Randal (Judi) Koenig
of Capitan, NM, Mary Helen (Shuford) Smith of Tryon,
NC and the late George D. Koenig (RHS-1960); devoted
grandmother of nine; and great-grandmother of nine;
fond sister of Helen Baxter Maxon and the late Cleo
(Burt) Matteson & Thelma (J.B.) Robinson; dear aunt
to many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. George graduated from Ballinger High School in
1933. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree at Hardin-
Simmons University in Abilene, TX, then a Master of
Arts in Education at Northwestern University, Evanston
in 1959. As an outstanding educator, she was elected to
Pi Lamda Theta. She taught at Ranger High School at
Ranger, TX in the late 40s & early 50s. She retired
from teaching after many years as a grade school educator
in DesPlaines. She was a member of the Naperville Baptist
Church. In the past, she had been active in the Order
of the Eastern Star and Gideons International. Always
an avid gardener, Claudia was a member of the Morton
Arboretum. Interment was at Ridgewood Cemetery.
