BIRTH:
  • San Antonio, Texas, October 19, 1927, the youngest of seven children, became fatherless at age 10 months.
    FAMILY:
  • Married to Lucy Lopez, San Antonio, Texas, April 15, 1945. Children: Robert (1947), Mary Elizabeth (1948), Ruben (1951), Eunice (1955), Gina Odette (1965).
    EDUCATION:
  • San Antonio, Texas, USA, Public Schools.
  • Howard Payne University, Brownwood, TX, 1950.
  • Attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Ft. Worth TX. 1954.
  • Received Honorary Doctor of Divinity Degree from Howard Payne University, Brownwood, Texas
    CONVERSION:
  • Committed his life to Christ May 26, 1938 at the Rosillo Street Baptist Mission in San Antonio, TX. Services were conducted in a garage converted into a house of worship. Led his first "convert" to Christ on that same day.
    MINISTRY:
  • Began preaching at age 13 and was licensed to preach at age 15.
  • Conducted his first Revival meeting at age 15.
  • Was ordained to the Ministry at age 19.
  • Served as pastor in San Antonio, Menard, Eden, Galveston, Ft. Worth, and Corpus Christi. The latter became the largest Hispanic Baptist Church in the Southern Baptist Convention.
  • Served as the first Director of Evangelism for Hispanics, Baptist General Convention of Texas, position he held for almost 15 years (1955-69).
  • Organized and Pastored Metro Baptist Church and Metro-Park Baptist Church in San Antonio, English-Speaking Hispanic churches (1986-90).
    PRESENT POSITION:
  • Director of Rudy Hernandez Evangelism, International (RHEI) since November, 1973, majoring in Crusades, Conferences, Conventions, Communications and Counseling in the Continental U.S. and abroad. A Board of Directors handles the affairs of this non-profit corporation.
    CHURCH AFFILIATION:
  • Is a member of Primera Iglesia Bautista a Southern Baptist Church in Grand Prairie, TX. Rev. Domingo Ozuna, pastor.
  • EXPERIENCE:
  • Has conducted Revival Crusades in the greater part of the United States and around the world (having touched 58 countries) including most of Latin America, Africa, Europe, the Orient and Russia.
  • His meetings have been conducted in churches buildings, football and baseball stadiums, tents, civic centers, Opera Houses, Symphony Halls, Bullrings and other public meeting places as well as evangelistic rallies on the streets, parks and wherever an audience can be gathered.
  • He has represented the World Ministries of the Southern Baptist Convention on special preaching-teaching missions in Thailand, Hong Kong, Viet Nam, the Philippine Islands, India, South Africa, Spain, Russia and in various parts of Latin America.
  • Spoke at Houston's Astrodome to over 42,000 in 1971 during the Spiritual Spectacular of the Baptist General Convention of Texas.
  • He has written numerous articles for Denominational periodicals and tracts and booklets on Evangelism in Spanish and English and is the author of a book "Sermones y Biografia de Rudy A. Hernandez" published by the Baptist Publishing House in El Paso, Tx.
  • He has developed "Primeros Pasos Para Nuevos Creyentes", a course for new believers, on Video, Audio and printed booklets.
    DENOMINATIONAL AND INTER-DENOMINATIONAL:
  • Served as Second Vice President for the BGCT and SBC.
  • Served on the Board of Trustees: Criswell College, Hispanic Baptist Theological Seminary, H.A.N.D.S. (Health, Nutrition, Discipling and Service).
  • Served as President, Vice-President and Secretary-Treasurer of the Conference of Southern Baptist Evangelists.
  • Served as President of the Conference of Texas Baptist Evangelists.
  • Served as a Director of the Home Mission Board of the SBC.
  • Served as President of the Mexican Baptist Convention of Texas.
  • Served as President of the Fellowship of Baptist World Ministries.
  • Served as President of the International Fellowship of Hispanic Evangelists.
  • Served as President of Mexico's Fellowship of Vocational Evangelists.
  • Served as President of the SBC National Hispanic Ministers' Conference.
  • Serves 25th year on the Board of Trustees of Howard Payne University.
  • Serves as President of the Texas Baptist Hispanic Evangelist's Conference.
  • Serves on the General Council of the Baptist World Alliance, officially representing the Southern Baptist Convention.
  • Serves as member of the Implementation Task Force for the Re-structuring of the Southern Baptist Convention.
  • Served on various committees, commissions and boards of the Baptist General Convention of Texas and the Southern Baptist Convention.
  • Served on President Reagan's "National Committee for the year of the Bible" and the "National Day of Prayer".
  • Served as Secretary, Vice-President and presently serves as President of the Texas Alumni Association of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas.

    RADIO AND TELEVISION:
  • Has spoken extensively on Radio and T.V. in the U.S. and abroad.
  • Presented three hour-long T.V. Crusade Specials three years in succession in the Ukraine that resulted in over 45,000 inquirers.
  • Produced and spoke on "Solucion", a Spanish T.V. weekly production in RHEI owned studios.
  • Hosted "La Vida Hoy", a Spanish 60-minute weekly telecast over ACTS, the SBC Satellite T.V. network.
  • Co-Hosted "Life Today" an English 60-minute daily telecast over ACTS, the SBC Satellite T.V. network.
  • Hosted "Por El Sendero de La Vida", one-hour weekly live radio call-in broadcast.
  • Hosted "The Word in Focus", daily devotional radio broadcast.
    INTERPRETER:
  • He has served as interpreter for Dr. Billy Graham, Dr. Paul Yohnge Cho of Korea, Dr. John Bisagno of Houston, Dr. W.A. Criswell of Dallas, Dr. R.G. Lee (deceased), and many others.
    SPECIAL FEATURES:
  • He has been featured in "TIME Magazine", on Nationwide "Monitor Radio" on Syndicated Column, "The Power of Faith" and numerous major periodicals in America and abroad.
  • Has been featured in "Who's Who in Religion in America", "Great Men in the Southwest" and " Dictionary of International Biography"
  • Featured in a 14-page article by Phyllis Thompson in the May-June 1985 issue of "Missions U.S.A." the official magazine of the Home Mission Board, SBC.
  • Honored by Baylor University in 1991 for 50 years of ministry. The "Rudy Hemandez Doctoral Program Scholarship "for worthy Hispanic Baptist Students" was established in his honor.
  • In May of 1995, Dr. Clift Brannon and he were instrumental in leading deposed President of Panama, General Manuel Antonio Noriega, to faith in Christ in the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Miami, Florida. He and Dr. Brannon baptized him in the Federal Court House under special arrangements with Federal authorities.
