Nikolas sat for the second time in the past week, in the dreary hospital waiting room. He was nervously pacing back and forth when Emily, Zander, and Lucky rushed in. Em ran over to him and wrapped him in a warm comforting hug.

"Are you okay?" she asked him.

"It seems I've been in this situation alot lately." Nik replied.

Emily looked at him and saw that his eyes were red and droopy, and she knew that he had been up all night.

"Nikolas, what happened?" Lucky asked, leading Nik to a chair and sitting down beside him.

"I don't know Lucky, I just don't know. I went to L&B to do some work for Ned. I was about half-way there when I realized that I left my tour book for Juan at the cottage." Nik looked at Em, and saw her eyes drop to her lap. "Oh, I'm so sorry Em, I didn't mean to bring up Juan."

"No, it's alright Nik." Emily replied, "Really, I mean, I have a new life now, with Zander," she took hold of his arm, "Juan doesn't bother me anymore."

Nik saw the look in her eyes, but decided he wouldn't press on it now. "Anyways," he continued. " I turned around and drove back to the cottage, but when I got there I found Gia lying on the floor, unconscious."

"Oh man, I'm so sorry Nik." Zander said, "I'm sure she'll be alright."

"I hope so," Nik replied, his eyes watering once again. All he could do now was hope, and pray that Gia and the babies were alright. Whatever had happened, Nik was positive that either Helena, or Liz had something to do with it. If anything happened to Gia or the babies, Nikolas would be sure to make them pay dearly.

~*1/2 Hour Later*~

Nik bolted from his seat when he saw Dr. Quartermaine walk through the door, clipboard yet again in hand. But the look on her face made his heart stop, and he knew something was terribly wrong.

"Dr. Q. what happened? Is she alright?" Nik asked, his voice shaking, and his eyes pleading for them to be okay.

"Nikolas, I think you should sit down." Dr. Q. guided Nik back to the chair form which he sprang when she entered, and proceeded to give him the details.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gia couldn't get the words out of her head.

"Your babies are dead." the nurse had told her.

The words kept replaying over and over in her mind, burning into her brain, until they dissolved into a blur of images. She saw Nik, she saw her twin baby boys, she saw Nik again, then the babies. Then she saw herself, sitting alone in a mirrored room, crying. In a split second she was out of the room, and was in a long dark tunnel. She could see a tall pedestal at the end of the tunnel, and her babies lay there, on the pedestal, crying. Gia ran through the tunnel as fast as her legs would take her, but no matter how fast she ran, the babies kept getting further and further away, until they were completely out of sight.

Suddenly Gia sat up, drenched in sweat. 'Oh thank God' she thought, 'It was only a dream.' Then Gia looked around at herself. She was in a hospital room, the same one she was in earlier this week, when Elizabeth gave her food poisoning. She was lying in the hospital bed. 'It WAS a dream, wasn't it?' she questioned herself. She was about to get out of bed and find a nurse, when Nik walked in. She saw the look on his face, and immediately knew something wasn't right.

"Nikki, what's wrong? What happened?" she asked, pointing towards the I.V. that was attached to her arm.

Nik pulled up a chair beside her and took one of her delicate hands, in both of his.

"Gia, sweetie, you have carbon monoxide poisoning." Nik told her, trying to remain calm and collected for her sake.

"God, what's with the poisoning lately?" Gia asked, with a chuckle. But Nik wasn't laughing. Gia suddenly remembered her nightmare. "Nikolas, are the babies okay?" she asked, placing both of her hands on her stomach. "Nikki, they're not kicking anymore, why?!'' Her eyes couldn't contain the tears anymore, as they flowed freely down her face.

"Gia. The doctor told me I was lucky to have gotten you here when I did." he told her, tears also flowing down his face. "Any later and you would've died."

"Nikolas!!! The babies?!" Gia demanded.

Nikolas looked at Gia, and she could see the tears in his eyes, and on his cheeks. The tears that confirmed her worst nightmare. "The babies were still in shock from the food poisoning....."Nik said, his voice quivering, "The carbon monoxide, it ki.....it was too much for them. They couldn't take it Gia. We lost them."
