Q & A

Map of Kazakhstan

Frosty
Chris took this shot outside his apartment.

TSUM
This is the complex of shops (mall) where we go for anything from extension cords to CDs to dishsoap.

Another View of TSUM
As you ascend from one etaj (floor) to the next in TSUM, you find prices climbing as well. (We tend to stay on the ground floor.)

The Circus, or Tsirk
I've yet to visit the circus, but I believe Fox Mulder may once have been abducted by it.

Abzal
This new building has some more upscale (and pricy) shops inside. (Trivia: some of us refer to this as the "Arabic" TSUM because of the script used in the sign.)

At the Market
This is the place to get dried fruits (esp. apricots and raisins) and nuts.

A Very Blue Bank
These buildings are appropriate to Kazakhstan, but it seems to me there was a Simpsons episode which showed the problems in painting a building sky blue...

The Kazakh-American School
This building houses the Small Business Training Center (SBTC) and our office.

Our Office
Dave and Chris hard at work planning their lessons.

Sorok Pyati (45th)
This intersection is the location of the bus stop near our school.

School 15
This is the schol building where we hold our classes in the evenings.

WWII Memorial
This memorial to some of Kazakhstan's soldiers who died in the Great Patriotic War is located on a wall in our school.

Salad, Anyone?
Chris and I spent some time recently at Avrora, one of the many markets in the city.

... Or Perhaps Some Chicken Heads?
A minute before this I saw a guy buying a bagfull!

Hmmm...
What do you think, do we blend in, or what?
