Prostate Gland Protection Information and Natural Prostate Health Remedies
Let me ask you what may seem like a silly question. If you bought a brand new car, would you drive it til the oil turned black, hoses started bursting and belts started breaking before you took it to a mechanic for the first time?

Would you drive the tires until they had no tread before you had them rotated or checked for balance?

You know the answer to those questions. My question is this: Why do we often take better care of our cars than our bodies? It's not like we can buy a new one if this one breaks down, the way we buy a new car.

How well do you maintain your own body? For example, when is the last time you had a prostate gland exam?

If you are like a lot of men, and particularly if you are under the age of 30, it may have been a while or never.

I've never had one, being a woman, but I would suppose a prostate gland exam would be about as much fun as a pap smear and let me assure you, gentlemen, that's no walk on the beach.

Because it is unpleasant, a prostate exam may be put off. If a man isn't showing any signs of prostate problems, then it's easy just to assume all is ok in the gonads region.

The truth is that regular prostate exams can spot prostate cancer while it is curable.

Putting off your regular prostate exam could cost you your life.

So, even if the words "turn left and cough" makes the hair stand up on the back of your neck, get the exam. It's just the smart thing to do.

How often should you have a prostate exam?

Two leading authorities, the American Cancer Society and the American Urological Association, currently recommend that men should have rectal exams annually, even if health, after the age of 40.

If you are over the age of 50, it is recommended that you not only have the annual rectal exam but also an additional test, which is a simple blood test, to monitor prostate-specific antigen levels (called PSA). Another question: How often do you put off going to the bathroom?

If you drive a truck, work at a desk or work in some other environment where you sit a lot, it would help you to go to the bathroom whenever you feel the urge and not put it off for an hour. It would also help you to get up, move around, stretch throughout the day.

One factor in the development of male incontinence is bladder abuse, really. Not going when you need to go, not drinking enough water, or drinking diuretic beverages all day - coffee or colas.

Are you at risk for prostate cancer?

The statistics on this particular form of cancer are very sobering.

  • The number of diagnoses of prostate gland cancer are higher than the number of cases of breast cancer in women that are diagnosed each year. Prostate gland cancer is a health challenge every many over 40 should take seriously.

  • Prostate cancer is the sixth leading cause of death in men. If you are male and over 40, you need to be taking steps to insure prostate gland health.

  • Dismaying as the statistics are on cancer of the prostate, prostatitis is an more common problem. In fact, almost every man will experience some sort of prostate probem in his lifetime. According to estimates by the American Foundation for Urologic Disease, more than half of men aged 50 and above have enlarged prostates. This number steadily increases with age, and by age 80 it is estimated that 80 percent of men have prostatic enlargement.
