- When Austria-Hungary declared war
on Serbia, Serbia called on their alliance with Russia, making Russia
declare war on Austria-Hungary. Then since Austria-Hungary were
declared war on, they called on their ally Germany. Germany
declared war on Russia, Russia called on their ally France, making
France declare war on Germany. After all was said and done much
of Europe was in war.
- America declared neutrality for
much of the war. President Woodrow Wilson was able to keep
America out for three years. In fact he got reelected on the the
words "He kept us out of war." But in 1917, America could no
longer stay out. While some people believed that we joined in on
the war because Germany refused to respect American claims to
neutrality, forcing Americans to retaliate. While others believed
America was on the brink of greatness entering World War 1 would push
us further to this goal.

- June 28, 1914 shots were fired
killing the heir to the Austria-Hungary throne, Archduke Francis
Ferdinand and his wife Sophie. This spark ignited the match which
drew Europe into a war that lasted for four years and cost millions of
lives.
- After the assassination,
Austria-Hungary was convinced that the Serbian government was behind
it. They then sent a number of demands, that interfered with
Serbia's independence. When Serbia refused to meet all the
demands
Austria-Hungary declared war.
