The long-range importance of any stud dog can not be measured in champions alone. History is full of names whose overnight claim to fame, through a number of winning progency, could not stand up to scrutiny a few years later.

CHAMPION COASTWIND ABRAXAS has sired more champions than any other Afghan Hound anywhere, in the world, at any time. This was before it was common practice, to use A.I. This means that Abraxas will hold the record of TOP STUD dog through out all time {{{and history}}}, as A.I. was not available when Abraxas was producing his winning get. Therefore Abraxas can never be equaled!

But the reason that Abraxas has been {{{so fondly}}} remembered, when many others have been forgotten is, not so much the number of winners, (although, when Abraxas sired 80 American Champions it was in a decade when it was THREE TIMES HARDER TO BECOME A CHAMPION), but in fact Abraxas is remembered because of the quality of these champions and even more, their ability to stamp his quality on future generations. Abraxas' gift lives on through every Afghan Hound I have ever owned or bred! Thank you "A"

Thank you Afghan artist, Mary Ann Giordano for this lovely drawing of Abraxas.

This is Abraxas at 12 years of age. The most glorious Afghan of all time. The top stud dog world-wide, for over 30 years. Photo was taken by Joy in 1982. Yes, this is me at 17 years old attempting to stack the great Abraxas. Seems I was in such awe, I had forgotten how to stack out a dog. This was no average dog, but the quintessential Afghan Hound. Legend of legends.

This was my beautiful "T-Khan". He was one of the last living Abraxas sons. Anyone who knows my pedigrees, also knows that I have based an entire breeding program on Abraxas, some dogs carrying as many as 18 crosses back to Abraxas.

This pic of Abraxas (circa1969) was after Abraxas won his first California specialty, at about 17 months of age, under breeder/judge Gerda Kennedy. Apparently everyone who was in attendance that day, knew history was about to be made.

This is probably my favorite Abraxas pic of all because it shows the most beautiful Afghan to ever live, at his very best.

Abraxas….Need I say more?

ABRAXAS...In the minds eye, the enchantment will remain.

Yes, this pic of Jerre is dreadful, but look past it, because this picture tells a lot of valuable information to the fancier, just look at the structure of this animal .. at 13 years old yet! I feel Abraxas would be as important today, as a stud dog, as he was 20 years ago.

Abraxas, again as a grand old man. Yes his ears are wrapped for protection. I have used these pics because candid pictures of Abraxas are very rare. I would love to add some show pics of Abraxas in his prime if anyone has any. Thank you, I hope you have enjoyed the Abraxas pages. Long live the memory of this glorious, timeless dog!!! (*Note that "UKC CH ZoSo's Song Of Songs" Christian, carries 13 crosses back to Abraxas)
