Trivia for 5/13
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Answer for 5/12: Mary Roberts Rinehart's 1930 mystery novel The Door is the book that is attributed with having the first appearance of what now-cliché occurrence? "The butler did it!" The butler was the murderer, even if that phrase wasn't used in the book itself. Some writers and fans of detective stories have said that it is a lazy writer who blames the deed on the butler, but others say that the butler is in a unique position to have unmonitored access to other members of the household. In S.S. Van Dine's "Twenty Rules for Writing Detective Stories," his Rule #11 states: "A servant must not be chosen by the author as the culprit... It is a too easy solution." 39 players answered correctly. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Question for 5/13: From player Catherine (SpclDove): What is the greatest number of Friday the 13ths possible in a single calendar year? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
