May 15, 2000 This is one of my essay's that is addressing a current issue of golf. I try to make a point and am sending this to a local news paper. If you have any corrections or comments please send me an e-mail at Jocktom@cs.com. Thank you. __________________________________________________________________ Dear Editor, May 15, 2000 Golf is a sport of both beauty and challenge. Starting golf at an early age is a key to playing good. It could mean the difference of winning a tournament to or being off in the woods searching for your ball. The earlier age a child gets interested in golf, the better chance he will play better. Tiger Woods, a professional golfer started at such an early age than others, now he is the #1 ranked golfer in the world. Me, myself started at the age of fourteen, which is a good yet relatively late age to start. I love golf, but wished I would have started playing at an earlier age. Golf could be taught to a person at any age by means of observing or swing the club. Although golf can be difficult by some, starting early and practicing will make all the difference. I once was at the driving range and overheard a man say it was his first time swinging a club that day and he had hopes of winning a large country club tournament. If you have a young child, let him or her try golf out by going to the driving range, course, or even in your own backyard. If your interested, go head, and give golf a go, (just don’t expect to beat Tiger Woods your first time out.) Golf is a challenging sport that takes years of practice to be good at. The other good part about being a junior golfer is the junior and student discounts, (No, my parents will not pay for golf, I’ve tried.) Although I cant promise you’ll end up on the fairway I can promise you’ll have fun.
