Rain rubbed her eyes and winced in pain. Her feet were hurting so badly that she could barely keep herself from crying. She heard a deep, gentle voice whisper to her, "Its okay. I know this has definitely got to be painful, but it will be cleaned off in a minute." Slowly opening her eyes, she found Kevin pouring water over her feet and then wiping them off with a towel.
"I need something to wrap her feet in," Kevin called to the others. Howie stood up from where he was sitting right beside her and said, "I'll be right back." Rain watched as Howie ran through the woods to the BSB's campsite, then came back a few minutes later, carrying 2 thick cotton shirts.
He handed them to Kevin, who smiled and said, "Boy, Howie must like you. These are his 2 favorite shirts!" Rain blushed for a second, and then she looked over to the fire. Lauren and Brian were sitting in front of the fire, on one of the benches, talking to one another very softly.
**What they're saying**
"You seem really sweet."
"So do you."
"And you're cute! I love long brown hair and brown eyes on a girl. They suit you."
"Aww, thanx. You're awesome-looking yourself. Those eyes . . . that hair . . . wow."
"Thanx. What's your name again?"
"Lauren."
"Well, hi Lauren. I'm Brian."
"And I'm yours."
**Back to story**
Rain laughed and whispered to Kevin and Howie, "I don't know, but those 2 look like a really cute couple. Aww, look . . . they're holding hands!"
"You think that's cute . . . look over here," Howie said. Rain turned and looked up at him. Without a word, Howie bent over and gave Rain a kiss on her cheek. A surprised look came over her face as he moved back to his sitting position on top of the log bench, but a second later, moved down to sit next to her. "Hey, aren't we missing a couple of people?" Kevin asked.
"Well, Jade went to the bathroom over there," Howie said pointing, "and I haven't seen Nick and Amy for about 15 minutes."
"I was out of it that long?" Rain asked in shock.
"Yep. That you were," Howie smiled.
"Wow. That's never happened before," Rain sighed, still dazed from the kiss.
**Meanwhile**
"Nick, do you know where you're going?"
"Yeah. I want to show you the lake."
"I thought the lake was the other way."
"I know, but I wanted to talk to you for a minute before I take you there."
"What about?"
"Well, this is kinda hard to explain."
"Go ahead and try. We're probably lost, so we have some time!"
"Very funny . . . well . . ." "Yeah?" "WhenIfirstsawyouIlovedyouandIwantyoutobemygirlfriend!"
"What? Say it again, and slow enough that I can understand you."
"I said 'When I first saw you, I loved you and I want you to be my girlfriend'."
"Awwww. . . ."
