"Funny how everyone wants to go to heaven provided they
do not have to believe, or think, or say, or do anything"

Yo
this is tha Lobsta,
Lobsta came from this skateboard catalog that had a deck with a lobster on it, and there was a misprint and it listed the deck as "Lobsta" but in other catalogs it was called Lobster, so me and my old boy Scott Flynn from Woodlawn started Lobsta like it was some kinda gangsta ghetto title,
"Yo, if ain't tha Lobsta, you fiddin ta get capped!"

Y'know what i want to do with this edition of Lobsta Speaks? I want you to ask yourself who you are. really. for many of you out there, if you really are honest with yourself, you won't find much. This is something that alot of us don't like to face, that we don't like to open ourselves up to... but just think about that for a sec.
It's interesting how once we really break ourselves down and take a look, beyond our friends, beyond our families and all else, we're still looking for something more. We say "that's it?!" If that was indeed it, if all we are is what we see, why do we have a desire for something more? If this is it, then we wouldn't have a desire to be involved in any kind of spirituality, but since the beginning of time, humans globally have been trying to find something to worship or be sent to a higher plane or contact the spiritual realms, etc.
My question to you is this: why do human beings around the world even have a concept of spirituality? Why do we have a hunger for things beyond ourselves? What do people mean by a "God-shaped hole"?

Lobsta Speaks (7/20/00)
Well hello everyone. i just thought i'd add a little something that popped in this 3 pound brain today. I know it's been a while since I updated this thing so here you are.
Ladies and Gentlemen, I have a new pet peeve. it's Pharisees. Yes, Pharisees. "You mean the guys in the Bible who had Jesus accused and killed?" well, yes..."but they're not around anymore" WRONG! We (the band) are getting these emails once in a while from this unorganized but loud group of people who think they are better than us.
They say that our influences are aren't good enough, our message is isn't good enough, and our methods of delivery aren't up to their par. (and i'm not talking about musical skill)
One might think that i'm talking about anti-Christians or athiests, but they stopped bugging us a while back. The current thorn in our side (especially on the web) is Christians who are quite passionate about telling us what to do. Their message is generally "you aren't doing what you should.... according to me and my sheltered and limited-to-a-comfort-zone-I-built-for-myself Christian walk".
If you the reader have emailed us in the past and you think that this Lobsta Speaks might be referring to you, or you were going to email us or sign our guestbook with some "do what i say" entry, then leave our website now and pray for God to teach you what He thinks about this, since your emotions are mixed at the moment. Come back with His heart.
Your intentions are good, but if you sat back in your computer desk chair and thought about this whole thing, you'd realize that God didn't reveal to you that you need to contact Maybe Tuesday to tell them they're not up to Joe the new Christian's par.
In closing, stop trying to run ahead of God, you just concentrate on your own growth. Let's work on building each other up!!! Lobsta

if I were a rapper I would be MASTER D
now its time for...
MASTER D speaks (8/20/00)
hey guys and gals. this is david. I have a bit of a confession. i am guilty of being one of the hypocritical pharisees that lobsta just talked about. although really I guess this shouldnt matter since ive never met a person who is not a hypocrite; hypocrite is sorta synonymous with human. this is why I find it really amusing that people use the lame-o excuse of "christians are all hypocrites, so I don’t want to be one." so…you wont be a christian because christians are hypocrites just like you? But…
I digress.
firstly, i love JESUS. he has given me a serious source of joy and a reason for living. he rocks. And of course, jesus not only loves me, he likes me!!!! In fact he likes me too much to leave me like I am (have you ever known a person you care for too much to not help them?) Similarly, I not only love jesus (afterall I’ve been told to love god with all your heart since I was born) but the more time I spend hanging out with god through prayer, fellowship, and scripture, the more I get to like him too.
however, even though he has completely changed my life for the better and we’re homies, I still let him down sometimes. we all do.
but every once in a while god pulls me aside and lets me know that although my intentions are great im not in control. although humbling, it’s a good experience. basically ive realized that I am one of those guys who recently has been saying to all of my close friends "hey look fellow christian brother or sister, don’t do this because it separates you from god." My intentions are great. I want my friend to grow closer in christ. however, im realizing the problem is that everyone walks with christ at a different rate, and that person may not be ready to "up the standards" quite yet. Therefore my good intentions may cause more mess for god to clean up.
the thing i need to remember is that works (or our actions) do not bring us closer to god, and they will not provide salvation. (by the way, don’t try telling that to members of certain cults.)
how do i know that works do not bring us closer to god? well have you ever tried to not do anything bad (in thoughts or actions) for 24 hours. if you do it for 24 hours then try it for a week. if you can do it for a week then do it for a year. it doesnt work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I mean there were tons of people in the old testament (and there still are tons today) who were extremely religious people who followed the rules pretty well, but they had no clue of who god was.
if it were up to our good deeds to be close to god, we would all be eternally screwed. the grace of god comes not from man trying to reach god through works, but through god humbling himself to reach out and help man (through jesus christ)
heres my point whenever god wants a person to "up the standards" and be more obedient, he is going to tell a person. Don’t always assume that now's the right time. That’s where I became a hypocrite. By telling others how to improve their relationships with god, i not only made them mad, but i also offended god because I was saying that my timing was better than his.
ouch.
so heres my suggestion, based upon what ive learned over the past few months.
rather than destroying each other by saying this way is right or that way is right, lets just work on building each other up. how do we do this?
I say that we need to just encourage our friends to spend more time with god through worship, studying the bible, fellowship, and prayer. Of course we need to all do this. ive never met a person who does not need to spend more time with god, including myself. When we spend more time with god, well understand him better, love him more, and hell (that’s he'll not hell) make it obvious what the junk is in our live. It is at this time that each person can decide to choose god or not to choose god by getting rid of the junk (rather than choosing what david thinks god wants, which would be "davidism" rather than christianity.)
Encourage each other to spend more time with god, and he will take care of fixing the works. How do we encourage them to spend more time with god???????????????
Well if you start by telling someone that he needs to spend more time with god, youre probably going to have the same problem as telling someone that he should or should not do whatever. (that brings us back to the original problem) Therefore, I suggest you live the life that shows how much you enjoy spending time with god. this is very contagious. I love to worship, and I think many of my friends know that.
God's timing is perfect and in order. he wouldn’t expect me to get up and preach to a billion people if I had never done that before and I was completely unprepared. If he called me to do that he would prepare me first!!!! it would not be fair for someone like billy graham (who actually has preached to a billion people probably) to say that in order for me to be a good christian I need to start preaching to a billion people. I need to do other things first, like listen to god!!! God will put those things on my heart at the right time.
so lets remember that whenever we tell another christian (or a non-christian really) what he or she needs to do at the wrong time, we are spitting in gods face, telling him that his timing is bunkie. (bunkie is a euphemism for sucky.)
so what have we learned???????????????????????
don’t tell other christians what works they need to become better christians unless god has SPECIFICALLY put it on your heart to say something.
after all, sometimes we are called to speak the truth to our friends about the harm of their actions. However many times we do more damage than good.
Of course at this point im realizing that im telling you not to tell others what to do. so now that im back where I started--being a hypocrite.
ill quit.
thank god for jesus. (that’s all ive got to say)
til next time
