Question:
Hi, I am also participating in the program for the Fall of 1999.
I was accepted as a merchandising hostess, and I was wondering what your job was?
Answer:
My first summer I was a Merchandise
Hostess as well! I worked at the Emporium on Main Street U.S.A. Magic Kingdom.
I loved it more than anything. The Emporium, however, requires
much more work than that of any other Merchandising Job.
Main Street in the Magic Kingdom always stays open an hour later
than the park. During the summer hours I know, the Magic Kingdom
is sometimes open until midnight or 1 in the morning. Main Street
would then stay open until 1 or 2, and then you'd work two hours
after close to clean and restock. This is just the Emporium though,
don't get scared. Working at 1 or 2 in the morning was the most fun
for me that summer. All us College Programmers would work until
3 AM, go out to Perkins or Denny's afterwards, and by the time
we got back to Vista Way, we had a hilarious time
making fun of our passed out drunk roomates. The hours weren't
always the late night to early morning ones. There were
great shifts as well. Most days I got to see both parades
and the fireworks, and then go home to party. In my opinion,
Merchandise is a great job to have.
Question:
Does Orlando have a First National Bank? I would like to use an ATM that doesn't charge me fees everytime I use it.
Answer:
I'm not sure of all the banks in the Orlando area, however, Walt Disney World is strongly affiliated with the Vista Federal Credit Union. All of the ATMs on property belong to the VFCU, they offer direct deposit for Walt Disney World, and after your program is over you can just close the account. It is the most conveniant way to go if you don't know your bank is in Orlando.
Question:
What types of classes do we take while we are there, how big are they, and how long does that take?
Answer:
The classes take place approximately once a week, and last a few hours. They discuss personality types, how a business succeeds, etc. The classes are close to about 15-20 college students per room. Now this is when I was on the program in 1997. The Walt Disney College Program has changed with every program.
Question:
How many credits can I get to work there as an Internship?
Answer:
This depends upon your university. I knew people that got 1 credit, people who got 12... some that got none. I recieved 6 credits on my first summer on the college program. My university required a major that was in a related field in order to get credits for the WDWCP. Check your Internship or Administration departments of your University to find out more.
Question:
Can I find out who my roommates will be before we go to Florida?
Answer:
Unfortunately, the answer to that is no. It would be a wonderful concept to know who you will be living with so you only take one TV, and one stereo, and one phone, but it doesn't work out that way. Vista Way apartment complex won't know who your roommates will be either. So just pray!
Question:
What things should I bring to this apartment? Will they have linens? Will they have dishes and such?
Answer:
Vista Way and The Commons Housing Complexes will supply Linens, furniture, towels (not enough so bring some) dishes, glasses, and silverware. Appliances for you are refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher. There is a washer and dryer for most buildings. $1 a wash, 75 cents to dry if I remember correctly. There are three floors to a building and 4 apartments to a floor. Most apartments have three bedrooms for 6 residents. Some have 2 bedrooms for 4 residents. All have two bathrooms. I believe if you look at my Summer 1997 or 1998, there will be pictures of the buildings.
QUESTION:
Does everyone live in the same apartment complex?
ANSWER:
That is a good question, most College Progammers live in the same apartment complex, but the College Program has grown to be so large, they are now using "off-site" Vista Way apartments to accomadate everyone. You are not at any disadvantage if you get one of this "off-site" apartments. In fact, you may get some more perks. Like less strict security, larger rooms, or better parking, etc.
