Metroid Prime - The Story So Far...

Travelling through vastness of space the bird-like species known as the Chozo used their advanced technology to build architectural achievements of unmatched beauty and complexity. As they went from planet to planet they freely shared their technology with all races, and in doing so gained an appreciation for life in all its forms.

Despite their supreme achievements in technology, the Chozo felt they were starting to lose touch with their spirituality. Their culture had strong traditions, and the people forsaw the decline of their race in tide with the rise of evil. Seeing the amount of violence increase across the universe the Chozo saw this as the prophesy coming true and, fearing for their people, withdrew into themselves.

Abandoning their technology and preferring a simpler way of life they built refuges across many planets - Tallon IV being one of them - and in time they learnt to live with the creatures and the land.

Time passed, and all seemed well on Tallon IV until a large meteor hit the planet. The force sent debris up into the atmosphere and the land filled with a dangerous element known as Phazon. As the Phazon seeped into the ground it poisoned the land and water, killing or mutating life as it came into contact with it. Slowly, the planet began to die.

The Chozo returned to using technology and used their great skills to try and control the effects of the Phazon, but ultimately all they could do was to build a great temple over the crater caused by the meteor thus blocking off the Phazon core, and keep it sealed away. They hoped this would contain the effects of the dangerous element.
Believing that one day someone would arrive with the ecological skills necessary to save the doomed planet the Chozo set off into space for an unknown destination, leaving only engraved accounts of their time spent on Tallon IV.

Only now, someone is experimenting with the Phazon.....
