SCIFI NEWS

Come on, read it before the pup gets it. You won't want it afterward.

The purpose of this page is to discuss the latest news in the world of SCIFI which will necessarily consist mostly of movies and television.

Nov. 3rd,2001:

Final touches are being put on "The Fellowship Of The Ring" due to be released Dec.,19th. I've been waiting to see this one as I've been a fan of the books for years. Can't even tell you how many times I've read them.

Cassandra Peterson, better known as Elvira Mistress Of The Dark, has a new movie in the works:"Elvira's Haunted Hills", a spoof on horror movies, what else? I love Elvira. Can't wait to see it.

The final scene for the Spiderman movie was shot on Oct.,28th. Locale was changed from New York to Los Angeles.

News is "Star Trek: Nemesis" is another upcoming film delayed by rewrites due to the events of Sept.,11th.

The X-Files will begin it's 9th season on Nov.,11th. Lucy Lawless will play Shannon McMahon, a figure from agent Doggetts's past who will apparently have some information about Scully's baby. The 2 parter will be titled "Nothing Important Happened Today".

NOV 16th,2001:

There's definitely something in the water and it's Lucy Lawless.

X-FILES' 9th season began this week and, I can tell you, Chris Carter hasn't lost his love or talent for "The cliff hanger". He's a man after my own heart.

I guess we'll just have to wait to find out what Chloramine is as John Doggett asks that eternal question; "What's a nice girl like you doing in a dive like this?".

Twentieth Century Fox is making plans for an X-FILES 2 movie. Chris Carter and exec-producer Frank Spotnitz will possibly begin shooting late next year with release at Christmas 2003. David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson have both said they're willing to reprise their original roles.

Arthur C Clarke was honored by the Space Frontier Foundation at a gala dinner at the Playboy Mansion this week. At the event, among others, were Hugh Hefner, Tom Hanks, Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin and Dennis Tito, our first paying space tourist.

Clarke attended in the form of a video taped message in which he stated he would not likely leave Sri Lanka again. Clarke, 83, suffers from post-polio syndrome, is wheelchair bound and says he simply no longer has the energy for travel.

Don't worry about Sir Arthur boys and girls. With his mind and imagination, he's traveled farther than we've ever dreamt of.

Actor Ian Mckellen, who plays Gandalf The Wizard in the Lord Of The Rings trilogy, is singing the praises of writer/producer/director Peter Jackson. Mckellen says "There are always last minute checks to make sure the story is 100% accurate. Jackson always asks "Is this what Tolkien meant?" or "Is that what he was trying to say?"

Seems neither Mckellen or Jackson is familiar with the history of Tolkiens writing of the tales; J.R.R. was teaching a college class at the time and made the argument that you could write about any meaningless thing and as long as you followed certain rules of prose you could keep people interested forever. He could have kept going but he figured he'd made his point.

British tenor Russell Watson is having to defend his theme song to Enterprise. Fans are petitioning to have it removed from the opening credits. "It's like anything new," says watson, "they don't like it now but they'll grow used to it." He also says they're thinking of shooting a video of the song "Faith of The Heart" on the set and releasing it as a single.

Creators of the Original Star Trek series are putting up props and memorabilia from their personal collections for a Dec 12th., auction on eBay. 300 pieces will be sold some of them valued as high as $50,000.

NOV 24th:2001

Well, I thought Lucy Lawless was going to be an alien. Turns out she's just a genetically altered supersoldier. The topper is she says Danas' baby is one too. And Scully, true to form, has to have proof other than her own five senses. At least they left an opening for John Doggetts' old buddy Shannon to return. You didn't think she was dead, did you? We already know she can breath under water and she said she couldn't be killed. As usual Chris Carter leaves us with the question; who can you trust? You have 2 characters who both seem antagonistic and somehow working together to get you. Then, at the last minute, the one you least trust, makes a gesture of placation and warns you of danger. Here we go again.

Wil Wheaton returns as Wesley Crusher on the new "Star Trek; Nemesis" movie. He struck up a conversation with Levar Burton while taping an episode of "The Weakest Link" for NBC. Burton put in a word with Rick Berman and Wheaton got a call from his agent shortly thereafter. Star Trek: Nemesis, number 10 in the Film Series, began filming on Nov 19th after producers decided not to do any rewrites.

Sorry to break everybodies hearts but the new Battlestar Galactica film project is back on the shelf once again. Fox wanted pilot director,Bryan Singer, to turn his attention to the upcoming film sequel, X-Men 2. Bryan decided he couldn't be in 2 places at once. I guess those diehard BS Galactica fans will be dusting off their petitions.
