Kalvin was excited, the hatching was going to be very soon and he was quietly certain that he would impress, there was an equal number of eggs as candidates and unless a dragon got impressed by a spectator (which was VERY rare but did, on occasion, happen) Kalvin would impress.
      A child ran into his small candidates room and started yelling, "It's starting! It's starting."
      Kalvin was flustered; he ran around looking for his white candidate robes, where can they be? The sleepy brown flit on his shoulder flew lazily over to the corner and picked up some clothes, under which were his robes. They were all creased but Kalvin put them on, he found his nearly heatproof candidate sandals and slipped them on too.
      "Hurry!" The child, who was now outside the room, shouted.
      "I'm coming!" Kalvin yelled as he ran out of the door and followed the small child to the hatching sands.
      All of the other candidates were there already but Kalvin didn't know them very well as he was brought in late as a replacement candidate who could not get there. As he took his place in the circle around the eggs the others looked at him in his creased robes but the sound of an egg cracking drew all attention back to the eggs. The egg that had cracked split to reveal a platinum, it stumbled but found its lifemate.
      "Jacosath!" Yelled the young man.
      Kalvin's attention was quickly drawn to another cracking egg, it was a blue but he too was impressed quickly.
      Suddenly the crowd drew a breath as one, Kalvin turned again to see the largest egg by far rock violently, it fell on it's side and rolled down the mound gathering speed until it hit the wall. A large crack appeared then the egg broke into pieces revealing a orange-yellow-red-blue dragon with too many legs which promptly unrolled into two dragons, one blue, one orange with what looked like swirls of flame on it. The crowed gasped. Both dragons headed towards one girl, she seemed shocked but pleased but the two dragons stopped near her and started to fight, Kalvin was starting to worry that they would get hurt when they broke apart and the flame one headed directly for him. He was partially aware that the blue had impressed but with the flame dragon nearing on him he did not care. The dragon lifted its firey head and looked into Kalvin's eyes. I am Shannarith! We will conquer the skies together!

Kalvin impressed at Navi Weyr and transfered to Xanther.
