Local Church History

In 1943, Rev. M.M. Totherow began a mission in a small store building on Wilson Street in Rock Hill. Following several months of labor and sacrifice, a small church was set in order. Rev. Totherow continued at this location for a few years with some small gain in membership.

After a few years, the church relocated to N. Jones Street into a larger store building. Here the church membership grew, and the first church building was built (not far from where services were being held). The church met at this location for many years until property was purchased on Cauthen Street and a beautiful wood structure was erected.

In 1970, a building program was launched to construct a brick structure on Cauthen Street. A few years later, a brick parsonage was constructed next door to the church building. The churched remained on Cauthen Street until 1990 when the property was sold.

The present location of Harvest Ministries Church of God of Prophecy was constructed from 1991 to 1995. (During this time, church services were held at the Fewell Park Recreation Center.) The land at 1211 South Anderson Road had been purchased in 1977 under the leadership of Rev. H.E. Smith, Jr. This prime land had been held undeveloped for many years waiting for God to open the door to move. Under the leadership of Rev. Kenneth Baker, the present church building was constructed, largely from volunteer labor. The church congregation moved into the building debt-free in the fall of 1995!

Several projects in the past several years have “completed” the building. These projects have included balcony renovations, parking lot paving and office renovations.

We thank God for His provision through the years and eagerly look forward to what He has in store for the future!
