Caribbean Cruise Vacations

If you've never been on a cruise ship, the first moments about one of these huge luxury liners will be like stepping into wonderland. You'll board into the atrium which is like a hotel lobby and this is where you'll get your first real idea of just how large these ships really are. You'll probably spend the better part of your first two days aboard just learning your way around.

Expect a lifeboat drill soon after everyone is on board. You'll be instructed on where your lifeboat station is and you'll have to report there with life jacket on for a head count. You'll then be given a brief overview of what to do in case of an emergency and then you'll be free to wander about and do as you please.

Here is a list of helpful tips for first timers:

  • Bring your birth certificate and I.D. or you won't be allowed to board the ship!
  • Pack light and leave room in your luggage to bring back purchased items.
  • Pack some bottle water in your luggage. It's expensive on the ship and once the water has been used, you have extra luggage space for the trip home.
  • Bring some of your favorite liquor if you like partying late in your cabin. Once the bars close, you're out of luck.
  • Tie some brightly colored ribbon around your bags. There may be 3,000 other passengers disembarking at the same time and finding your luggage can be a real problem in all the chaos.
  • Bring comfortable walking shoes for your shopping treks in ports.
  • Soap, shampoo, conditioners and other toiletries are provided for you in your cabin so don't take up luggage space packing them.
  • Your cabin will have a stocked mini refrigerator that your steward will gladly unlock for you. You'll be charged a handsome fee for everything you eat or drink from it.
  • Before you leave home, set your vcr to record your favorite shows because you don't get much television about the ship. (They want you in the bars and in the casino spending, not watching tv in your cabin).
