V Gets A Life

Ch 6

"You are really early." V groaned as she heard the knock on the door. She had just stepped out of the shower and was no where near ready. V feared she had lingered in the shower and was now running late. A look at the clock showed her she was on time. Only fifteen minutes of her forty-eight were gone. Jerry wasn’t known for being punctual but he normally was with her. He was never early by a half an hour.

V wrapped her hair in a towel and put on her robe before going to answer the door. Looking through the peephole she could barely believe who she saw. "Jax? What was he doing here?" She asked herself. One time today he had been when she was dirty with paint and now she was dripping. V wondered why he could never come when she looked her best.

"What do you want this time?" She asked a little upset. "I already told you I have a date. I will not go out with you and Chloe tonight. I will not go out with Simon. I refuse to get into any negotiations with you, because as a lawyer you don’t hold up, Jax." V said fuming. Why would he come to her apartment again? Hadn’t he handled her enough today?

"Actually my attempt to act as your council is why I am here." Jax said as he tried to get through the door.

"What you didn’t think you gave enough to Simon? Now you want me to promise him a first date kiss? Maybe climb in to bed with him? Walk down the aisle? Bear his children?" V said increasingly sarcastic but also increasingly angry.

"Venus may I please come in?" Jax asked trying to end her rant. "I can explain if you let me in."

V thought about it. She kind of liked having him standing at the door. She looked down at her robe. Did she really want to let him in? However, the increasing pressure Jax was putting on the door forced her to open it for him. "Do you ever give up?"

"Not when it is important, and you, Venus are important." Jax said before entering the room. As Jax got to the almost to the couch he stepped back. It was the first time Jax noticed that V was only wearing a robe.

"Whatever it is you want can you make it snappy? As you can see I need to get dressed." V couldn’t decide if she was pleased or upset that Jax was checking her out. However, she knew it made her nervous.

"For your date with Jerry? Why are you going out with him?" Jax asked again upset that his brother was her date.

"Yes with Jerry. He will pick me up in twenty-five minutes. If you only came here to try to discourage me from seeing him you can go. Once again, my love life is none of your business. I see whom I want when I want. Why is that such a hard concept for you?

V’s comments flustered Jax. He interfered again. She apparently caused him to act like an idiot. He tried not to look at her legs as he spoke. He knew from Monte Carlo, and before that she was much more gorgeous than she would ever admit. However, he hadn’t studied her body in months. "I came to apologize for Simon." Jax said quietly.

Jax demeanor surprised V. It wasn’t like Jax to be so soft spoken. Still the anger she felt, over his earlier treatment of her, had not dissipated. "Put it in a card. You can try an email. I have things to do."

"Venus I need to do this in person." Jax pleaded.

"I need to get ready. Why did you choose now anyway? Probably just to make me late." It wasn’t like the night with Jerry was a real date, but Jax had no right ruining it. Also she found herself increasingly more interested in finding out what Jerry was up to.

V was making him crazy. "Hear me out, please." I won’t be able to sleep without getting this off my chest."

"Take a pill. Call me in the morning." V said getting up, going into her room, and shutting the door.

"I am not going anywhere." Jax yelled at the closed door. He would just talk to V when she was done. Sitting on the couch he prepared his speech.

Twenty minutes later V came out in the flowing black dress Jerry had picked for the occasion. "You are still here." V said annoyed. She didn’t think she heard the door but she hoped she was wrong. She held the necklace in her hand out to him. "As long as you are here, be useful."

Jax stood in awe. He had seen her look good in Monte Carlo, however, this was beyond her best there. Again feelings of jealousy raged in his body. Why Jerry? "You are stunning." He said as he moved to her to take the necklace.

V couldn’t help but get but feeling giddy over his reaction. He had never reacted to her that way. Nobody had. She finally came into her own. This time she hadn’t needed help to turn heads. "Thank you." V said as she swept back her hair and felt him begin to fiddle with the clasp.

Small shocks of electricity went through Jax’ body as he brushed against her skin. With the clasp firmly closed, he allowed his thumb to continue caressing her neck and wander up to her chin. "Don’t go with Jerry." Jax whispered softly in V’s ear as his thumb reached her lips
