V Gets A Life

Ch 19

"You can’t tell me? I have ways of making you talk, Bobbie." Jerry said with an annoyed grin. What did she mean she couldn’t tell him what Jax wanted? Who was she to keep secrets for Jax?

"Yes Jerry you do. However, you lost the right to use those when we broke up." Bobbie reminded him a little more sternly than she had intended.

"You broke up with me, dear." He reminded her.

"Yes, I did. However, I don’t think you want to go back down that road."

Jerry couldn’t quite make out her tone. "That road didn’t lead anywhere last time. Do you think this time would be any different?

Bobbie smiled. "No, I don’t think it would. I don’t think you would be interested in traveling that road again. Not with me, anyway."

Jerry didn’t understand what Bobbie was getting at. "What do you mean by that, Bobbie?"

"Jax seemed to think that after one night with V you would fall hard." Bobbie explained.

"I assume he wasn’t referring to falling down a flight of stairs." Jerry’s grin widened. "What did he say, exactly?" Jerry asked

"He never realized how much he cared about V until you went out with her. He fears you might take her from him." Bobbie told Jerry. She knew Jax would never forgive her she always had a hard time resisting Jerry.

"Funny, I wasn’t aware he had her in the first place."

"Okay, he fears you will keep him from getting her, then." Bobbie said annoyed.

He has fallen for her?" Jerry tried to ignore the nauseous feeling in the pit of his stomach.

"It would appear that way." Bobbie watched Jerry’s expression change from jovial curiosity to veiled disappointment.

"It’s about time." Jerry tried to say with a grin. He failed miserably.

"Why don’t you tell me what happened?" Bobbie hoped to get down to the bottom of the whole situation.

--

"Wait? Why should I?" V asked indignantly. She tried to remain angry to keep herself from crying. Keeping her hurt from Simon was one thing. Jax was a different story. He asked her to stay. That thrilled Venus. However, after what she heard Chloe say, she felt betrayed.

"Because we have plans tonight." Jax tried. He had no idea of what had set her off but he knew he had to make her stay.

"I am not going out with you, tonight." V said softly. Not that you would have asked me. She thought to herself.

"We are all going together." Jax couldn’t bring himself to say that Simon was V’s date. How had he allowed that to happen?

"Wouldn’t you have more fun alone? Simon and I would be third and fourth wheels."

"No V. I want you to come." Jax tried not to let the desperation in his voice come through. "Please."

"And of course I should be thrilled you want me to come because I have no life." V yelled. She felt tears welling up in her eyes. She hoped the dark lighting of the hotel corridor would hide the dampness of her eyes.

V’s words hurt Jax. She heard what Chloe had said. "I didn’t say that, Venus." Jax hoped she could believe him.

"Maybe not; but you let her say it. I thought we were friends." V said as she turned to leave.

"We are friends, Venus. Give me a chance to prove that."

"You didn’t defend me. What kind of friend are you?" V asked barely holding onto her emotions.

"A bad one, V. Let me make it up to you." Jax pleaded.

"I can’t." V said before taking off for the elevators.

Jax began to run after her and was stopped by Simon. "I don’t think you should do that. She needs sometime away from you."

"I can’t just let her go." Jax argued.

"You will do more harm than good. You told me she didn’t like being pushed, remember?" Simon responded.

"You think I should let her leave?" Jax asked. "I can’t let that happen." Jax had just started to go after V when he was stopped by another voice in the hall.

"Where do you think you are going?" Asked the man who intercepted Jax.
