Ambitions
Ch 17

“I hate surprises.” Alexis whined as she looked at her husband.

Jax smiled. He was well aware of her distaste for not knowing exactly what was going on. He intended to use it to his advantage. “The sooner you get dressed the sooner you will find the answer to that question.”

Alexis brushed her hair back from her face and glared at Jax as she crawled out of bed. “This better be worth the trouble.”

Jax laughed as he watched her leave. He was tempted to join her in the shower. However, if he gave into his temptation they wouldn’t have a prayer of making their destination.

Carly shook her head and tried to get her mind around what Jason had just told her. “What?” She asked at the same time Michael did.

Jason turned when he heard Michael’s small voice. He didn’t know Michael had followed him upstairs. Jason looked directly into Michael’s eyes as he spoke. Jason worried that Michael would react badly. It had taken a long time for Michael to fully trust AJ. He didn’t want Michael to be hurt. “AJ was arrested last night.”

Michael’s lip quivered. “What did Daddy do?” He asked softly.

Jason looked at Carly. He didn’t know what to say. How do you tell a kid that his Dad almost killed somebody, again?

One look into his eyes and Carly knew enough. AJ was drinking. He got caught. It was serious.

“Mommy, Jason… Please… What did my Daddy do?” Michael asked softly. He could. “Is my Daddy a bad man?”

---

Laura couldn’t believe what she had heard. “AJ?” He seemed so stable when Carly left him the year before. Maybe he had seemed too stable.

Stefan nodded. “He had been drinking.”

Knowing she could do nothing about AJ, Laura turned her attention back to Nikolas. “Did you say he was in a coma?” Laura had learned so much new since waking up she had a hard time processing all that she knew.

Stefan nodded. “I am afraid that is correct.”

“Tell me somebody is in his room talking to him.” Laura pleaded.

---

Bobbie sat in Nikolas’ room holding his hand. “All the research says that talking to patients helps. It can’t hurt right?” Although she had years of nursing experience seeing friends and family looking so frail always upset her.

“I wish I knew what to say. I know what you are thinking. You didn’t think Spencer’s were ever at a loss for words, right? You should have seen Luke yesterday. I was kind of hoping he wouldn’t regain his voice when I told him I remarried Ste…” She hesitated. “Your father, you just found that out too. Too bad you wont remember and I will have to tell you again when you wake up.” Bobbie said with a soft laugh. After her initial anger, people’s reactions to her relationship amused her.

“He is going to wake up, right?” Came a soft, shaky voice from the doorway.

Bobbie turned startled. “You shouldn’t be here. Nikolas is on restricted visitation.” She didn’t like the restrictions Stefan put on the room. Yet, she didn’t want to add to his stress by bending the rules.

“I have to be. Please.” The visitor pleaded.

--

Luke’s eyes flashed with anger and concern. “Please tell me you are kidding.” He demanded. “You really don’t know where she is?”

“If I did, do you think I would have asked you?” Kevin responded. “You haven’t heard from her at all?”

Luke shook his head. “Laura was supposed to pick up the princess from Amy’s this morning. When she didn’t show up, Amy called me. I was hoping she was shacked up with you and lost track of time.”

Kevin couldn’t stop a weak smile from playing across his lips. “Must have been the first time you have hoped that.”

Luke nodded. “You have no idea. If she isn’t with you, where is she? She doesn’t miss time with Lu. Do you have any idea why she isn’t around?”

Kevin considered telling Luke everything. However he was interrupted. “Don’t even think of talking to him.” Scott snarled as he entered the courtyard and approached them.

“What concern is it of yours, Baldwin?” Luke retorted. “I already took two women from you. You don’t want to spar again.”

---

“We are on a timeline.” Eve reminded the group. “Lets get out of here.” The more they moved that day, the less they would ask about her night with Sonny.

“Why don’t you give us the details of…” Jerry started to ask a very personal question, but was interrupted by V.

“Details you need to know before we leave.” She expertly steered the conversation back to business.

Jerry smiled. “On task as usual, Agent Ardinowski.”

V shot him a look. “Always.” She turned back to Sonny and Eve. “I expect the same from the both of you. I hope you slept. It promises to be a long day.” She said before picking up the bag she packed the night before. “Let’s load the van.”

Jerry picked up his bag and followed V. There was no arguing with her when she got like this. He decided to drop the issue, for the time being.

Eve and Sonny picked up their smaller bags and glanced at one another. “You owe me, Corinthos.” Eve said with a playful glare.

“I can’t wait to make it up to you.” Sonny answered flashing his dimpled grin for only a second.

Within an hour the van had been loaded and the group was well on their way. “Anybody else tense?” Jerry asked in an attempt to break the silence that had enveloped the group since they left.

“Why, are you going to teach us some old WSB icebreakers?” Eve asked sarcastically.

Jerry grinned broadly. “That is exactly what I am going to do.”

V glared at him. “Shouldn’t you pay attention to the road?”

“I’m multi-talented, Luv.” He answered.

V rolled her eyes. “Fine, what is the game?” She wasn’t really sure she wanted to know.

A devilish grin played across Jerry’s face. “Do you really want to know?”
