Chapter 5

"Morning Sunshine!" A shrill voice called as Josie was painfully ripped from her sleep.

"Ugh..." She grumbled as a bright light shone on her face. Blinking slowly, she tried to focus on the figures in front of her.

"Hey Josie, wake up." Nathan smiled as he threw her curtains open. Sitting up quickly she kicked the covers off of her and darted to the window.

Pulling the curtains closed, she threw herself back onto her bed and groaned.     "It's too early." She mumbled through the blankets as she heard the shuffling of feet in her room.

"Nice undies." Ben laughed as Josie gasped.  Grabbing the blankets, she hurried to cover herself up.     "Morning."  He smiled from across the room as she sat up and pulled at her hair slowly.

"Get out."  She pointed to the door as Nathan and Ben laughed and walked out of the room to let  her get changed.

"It's too hot out." Josie frowned as she lugged an over sized surfboard under her arm.

"Get used to it."  Nathan smiled, running a hand through his hair as they reached the spot on the beach.

"Ready to surf Jo?" Ben asked as she glared at him.

"Don't call me that." She snapped as he put his hands up in surrender. Shrugging he grabbed his board and headed to the water with Nathan and Josie in toe.

"I quit!" Josie cried, dragging herself across the burning sand, and seeking refuge on her beach towel.

"So, how'd it go Jo?" He asked as she stared up at him.

"I told you not to call me that." She whispered as she lay face down on her fluffy blue towel.

"Nasty sun burn."  Ben pointed out as Josie groaned to herself.  Looking back over her shoulder she frowned.and closed her eyes again.

"Figures."  She mumbled as he shuffled closer to her.  Reaching into her rucksack, he found what he was searching for.     "What are you doing?" Josie asked, sitting up in protest as he placed a hand on her shoulder.

"Lay back down.  If you get anymore sun, you'll put lobsters to shame." He smiled as she frowned.

Laying down anyway she watched as Ben took out a bottle of sun tan lotion.  Squirting some of it on his hands, Ben looked down at her slowly.  She closed her eyes slowly as a strand of bright red hair flicked into her eyes.  He slowly rubbed his hands onto her back as she lay quietly thinking.  He sighed, trying not to think about her looks.  It was hard not to.  She was beautiful, with long tan legs and a flat stomach. Still, as beautiful as she was, she had an attitude to match it.  Ever since seeing her again, he had tried to make up for the way his friends had acted in the airport.  But, she seemed set on being rude to him at every chance.

"Mmm." She moaned softly before she could stop herself.

He smiled to himself as he massaged her lower back.     "Feel good Jo?" he asked as she sat up slowly.  She looked at him again, but this time not in anger.

"Please don't call me that." She whispered softly.

"Why?" he asked, trying to stare into her deep blue eyes for just a second, before she shifted them to the beach below them.

"My mother called me that." She said softly, closing her eyes sadly.

"What happened to your mother?" Ben asked, placing a warm hand on her arm.  Glancing up at him, she blinked back tears.  It broke his heart to see her cry, even if he had only known her for two days.  It was something about her that made him want to forget about every other girl in the entire world and focus just on her.

"She..." Josie began as Nathan ran up to them.

"Sorry to interrupt guys." Nathan smiled as Ben and Josie groaned inwardly.  "But, we gotta go.... Practice and all."  Nathan suggested as Ben nodded quickly.

"Practice for what?" Josie asked as Ben smiled.

"Just something stupid, don't worry about it." He smiled as she nodded and stood up.

"Okay."  She said, packing up her things.  "Then lets go."
