Learn Japanese

It's my profile, get it? Yeah, I know it's corny...

Well, here's the section that I know all of you were praying would happen someday. Yeah. Basically, I figured that most of you already know Seth pretty well and me zippo, so here's a bit about me. Actually, if you wanted to learn about me, you could go slog through all those inept quizzes, but I thought I'd make it a little easier. It kinda got, uh, bigger than I originally planned. I doubt anyone would come here anyway. I bet hardly anyone comes to my pathetic page at all. But if you're really bored, then go and learn a bit about Dana.
Yay me.

Basic Junk:
-Name: Dana (like you couldn't guess it...)
-Age: 20
-Looks: Brown eyes, long dark brown hair, 5'6 (yeah, pretty average, I know).
-Occupation: Student. I've worked a lot in resturants. I was a waitress, manager, cook, cashier, everything, for a little resturant for almost two years, before it closed. I really liked that a lot. This summer, I was just a plain waitress, which wasn't too bad either. I've also been a lifeguard formerly. Now I work in my college computer labs. That's right, I get paid to do homework and play on the internet!
-Major: Dana finally declared! Meet a brand new Journalism Mass Communication major. Thank you, thank you very much. This goes along with my Japanese minor so well....

The Japanese thing: I love Japanese culture, especially anime (Japanese animation) and manga (Japanese comics). Hence, my minor. It's just really fun for me. In fact, this stuff is even going to have subsections because it's such a big thing for me. ^_^
-How I got into Japanese culture: It all started with anime. And Stuart. Stuart is my best friend and a fantastic artist. This is 9th grade and he keeps drawing this guy with antennas and fangs and turtle shells on his arms. He looked weird. Anyway, we had some stupid project in history where....I don't even remember what we were doing, but we had to talk about all this stuff and find a picture for every subject...or something. But unlike the rest of us, who scavenged magazines and stuff, Stuart actually drew a picture for every subject. They looked really good too. And in all of them was this guy with kinda spiky hair. He looked kinda weird too. Anyway, a few months go by and I'm flipping channels on TV. I get to this cartoon and I'm like, hey, that's those weird guys that Stuart draws. So I decide to watch the show. Unfortunetly, those guys were only on for, like, a minute, and then this short red-haired kid and a big bald guy show up and begin fighting these big roachy things. I don't like roaches. So I changed the channel. Fast forward a few more months. I'm bored again, so I'm once again flipping channels. I get to that cartoon again, and decide to give it another try. Luck was on my side, because it turns out to be a week that Cartoon Network is running 4 episodes in a row. Due to this, I actually pick up on the storyline and get interested. It turns out to be Dragonball Z, in case you couldn't tell. The rest is history. Somewhere during August before 10th grade, I look up DBZ on the internet, just to see what I would get, and found all these cool sites, including DBZ Uncensored, a really fabulous site. I read every single thing on that page. Visit it sometime, and you'll know what a task this was. I'm talking all the opinions, all the editorials, even all of the old updates. Everything. It was great. Anyway, this was my introduction to the internet (besides for school stuff). About a year later, I decided to branch out and see what other anime was out there. And so began the hobby that takes up a good portion of my free time. Along the way, I got interested in the culture in general. And that's my story.

-Quite a bit, eh? Ah well, it's what I love.

Other Stuff I Do:
-Band:
I've played percussion since 7th grade and love it. Bass drum (3rd) in marching is the best. I've always been a marching fiend. My little brother was in Southwind Drum and Bugle Corpe for 2 years, so I've gotten to know a bunch of stuff through him too. I also play in the concert band here (:-P) cause I get a scholorship. It's not my cup of tea. Concert percussion is almost always boring. Plus my director really likes marches, like Sousa stuff, which are almost guarenteed to be repetitive and incredibly dull. Phooey on concert band.
-Theatre: Another fun thing I do. I've only been onstage a couple of times. I had a bit parts in 4th-7th grade for my church choir productions. I decided then that onstage really wasn't for me. Then in 11th grade, my school did "Into the Woods," a musical that I absolutely love. I wanted to be the cow. It was actually a major player in the plot, onstage a lot, and didn't have any lines except moo. The perfect part for me. So I tried out. I ended up with Little Red Riding Hood's grandmother, probably the tiniest part in the show. It was kinda fun, but that definetly confirmed that I was not meant to be onstage. No, behind the scenes is the place for me. I've done props crew, backstage manager, set crew, running crew, and assistant stage manager. It's great stuff! I have a fabulous time doing it too. Go theatre!
-Other Random Stuff: Rock climbing, when I have time (never), swimming (again, no time or place), reading, listening to music, surfing the web, playing video games when I can (never), just chillin with my friends.

Favorites:
-Color: Blue
-Video Games: Final Fantasy VII, Kingdom Hearts, Tetris, Bust-a-move, Mario, Legend of Zelda. I actually like watching more than playing though.
-Computer games: The Sims (so addicting), Snood, Spider Solitaire. (Don't suggest anymore, these are plenty of distraction.)
-Food: Jelly beans!! Candy in general, macaroni and cheese, broccoli casserole, pineapple and cheese casserole, dressing, pasta, potatoes, eggs, cheese, rice, stir-fry, shrimp, Doritos, Pringles, watergate salad, cupcakes from this one place in my hometown that makes them really good, carrots, broccoli, cantalope, gatorade (that's a drink, but oh well, I don't feel like making another section).
-Books: Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Chronicles of Narnia, the Little House on the Prarie books, Anne of Green Gables stuff, almost anything by Bruce Coville or Roald Dahl, Case for Christ, Quest for a Maid, The Boy who Owned the School.
-Movies: Back To The Future, The Matrix, Flight of Dragons, various Muppet movies, Newsies, Mulan, When Harry Met Sally, The Jungle Book (live-action).
-TV Shows: Malcolm in the Middle, Friends, Pete and Pete, The Wonder Years, The Dick Van Dyke Show, I Love Lucy, Pepper Ann, Who's Line Is It Anyway, Daria, Futurama.
-Plays and Musicals: Blast!, Into the Woods, Little Shop of Horrors, Les Miserables, Aresenic and Old Lace, The Foreigner.
-Music: Rock, Punk, Alternative, some Heavy Metal, Accapella, a little Country, Oldies, TV themes, Drum Corps, Musicals, some Classical, some Anime stuff.

Non-Favorites: Running, coffee, the color pink, really spicy foods, most rap music, dressing up, speaking in front of people, people who don't use blinkers (yes, I'm looking at you Seth), tea of any kind, playing marches, people who don't tip, Cartman from Southpark, those games where you sneak around and shoot people with about 30 different weapons (Quake, Metal Gear Solid, etc.), bad knees, roaches, flying stinging things (bees, yellow jackets, wasps, etc.), Shakespeare, the vast majority of dramatic plays, Hammersmith by Gustav Holst (gah, this song is so depressing/frustrating/mindnumbing), circling and landing in planes, humidity, really high, piercing sounds, tomatoes, concert band.

Stuff I'm Good At (or so I've been told): Sweeping, remembering people's names, making random connections, chemistry, finding, um, unique ways to get to solutions, making a mean oatmeal cookie, remembering random facts, crossword puzzles, getting lost. (Any suggestions of a major for someone who's good at these kinds of things would be much appreciated)

Stuff I'm Not So Great At: Most sports, speaking in front of people, doing anything with a Dell computer (hugs her Gateway), economics, doing taxes, dancing, drawing, dealing with people who are crying, knowing if your clothes look good or match or whatever, doing stuff with little kids, getting up early, chemistry lab.

Other Random Junk: I have bad knees cause my ligaments can't hold my kneecaps in place, I'm double-jointed, I have 2 dogs at home, I'm hypoglycemic, I drive a Lumina, I'm very nostalgic of my childhood (in a good way).

Well, that's all I have for now. Other stuff may come about later.
Ja ne!
