HRW Guards - Promotions
How to get promoted

There are two ways to get promoted from recruit to full guard. Being a craft, which isn't really a craft, we don't have the @skills or @progress boards that tell us when it is time for an apprentice (in this case a recruit) to get promoted. Instead you can do one of two things:
  1. Set up a guard-related TP
  2. RP for a long time and convince the Powers-That-Be (at the moment Tekin, Sinead and Miria) that you deserve a promotion
Obviously we would like you to choose option 1, since TPs generate RP for others as well as yourself (and we seem to have an unnaturally high level of PC recruits). One thing, though, we'd like to see you wait at least 3 RL months before thinking about a promotion via this option, and then come to us with your idea for approval. This is due to Icness; if you set up your promotion-TP only a week after joining the Guard, you would have been a recruit for only one IC month. And approval is needed because we don't like to see things get completely out of hand.
TP ideas can be hard to come up with, but don't despair. Just ask around, the other guards are usually helpful enough to lend a hand with ideas.

IMPORTANT:
Remember, although you - the player - are putting on the TP to get the character promoted s/he doesn't know that!
The idea behind a TP is the player's, not the character's so to speak, and the character wouldn't be looking to be promoted because of it. Therefore; don't RP your character as if s/he knows that the TP will lead to promotion!
For example, if you put on a TP where you get into an unexpected situation and act accordingly (guard-wise), the character wouldn't be thinking about promotion just then.
Basically, the TP is to show that the character is ready for promotion, so try to RP according to the theses that this is a kind of 'graduation project'.
And don't worry. We don't 'rate' TPs. Everyone who put one on gets the promotion, no matter how it turns out ;)
Still have questions about TPs? Just ask the Powers-That-Be. They'll be happy to answer any questions you have.

If you choose to go with option 2, you may have a long wait before you become full guard (just ask Sinead!) In any case, if it's option 2 you want to go with it will do you no good to sit around in the Barracks all day, idling. Get out there and RP! And log your RP, so that the-Powers-That-Be can read them later on. Or you will never get that promotion, be sure of that. Either way, option 2 is the more time consuming way of getting promoted; instead of waiting just 3 months until you're allowed to set up a TP, you may have to wait a RL year or more before the Powers-That-Be find you ready for promotion. Remember, choose option 2 and you have no control of when you'll get promoted!

In the end, it's all up to you. But at the moment we've only got two PC full guards, so it may be worth considering putting on a TP…
