Fantasy XI, A Closer Look

With every new detail revealed, Final Fantasy XI becomes
a more promising title to look forward to. As has been
known for a while now, Final Fantasy XI takes place
on the world of Vana'diel, in a setting in which magic,
blades, and technology co-exist. Twenty years have passed
since a great war fought between those who followed
the source of all power in Vana'diel, the crystals,
and the monsters, who had sworn their allegiance to
the forces of darkness. Although the evil did succeed
in laying the land to waste, the warriors who fought
in the name of the crystals were eventually victorious.
However, the distant memory of the war has begun to
fade in the minds of those who survived, and an evil
presence has returned to plague the world once again.
When you first begin the game, your charactors stats
and attributes are completely customizable -- from the
gender, race, looks, and so on. Three main races are
given to choose from: Humes, the human race with balanced
abilities; Tartares, miniature wizards excelling at
sorcery; And Eruvans, proficient in sword battling,
easily identifiable by their pointed ears.
Each race lives in a different part of the world, with
vastly different landscapes. For example, the Humes
reside in the Basutuk Republic, a technologically advanced
community originally built for mining mythril. The tribes
of Tartare inhabit the Windurst Federation. Its capital
serves as a center for magic research laboratories.
And finally is the land of Sand King Country. Eruvan
soldiers established this kingdom at the end of the
war.
