History is the record of an encounter between character and circumstance --Donald Creighton

140,000 B.C. Under sea mountains collapse and then settle, Carson Bay is formed.

Historians Note - This is a critical event, as it generates a very large sink hole far out to sea. This in turn creates a sort of, “circular” waterfall. Many thousands of years later, modern hands would use this to build from, and the hydro electric dams are built here to power most of the islands. These plate movements are also important because it helps modern day oil rigs gain access to the rich deposits of oil far below the waves.

1,000 B.C. Indians move across the oceans to the island and inhabit.

200 B.C. - 300 B.C. Celts find a way onto the island. They possibly went through Iceland and down through Canada and into the United states, crossing the seas there. However, many claim that the Celts were on the island much longer, as they helped found Spain. If this is true, then the Celts, and the Iberian people, may have been on the island almost a thousand years earlier then assumed.

300 B.C. Cymry (Early Welsh) take the same route the Celts did and inhabit the island.

330 B.C. Picts station themselves as well in this time.

330 B.C. Alexander’s troops explore the island. Fort is built and set to watch over the island. fight with the Norse people for a time until Alexander’s death. War stops, and peace settles. Eventually after Alexander’s death, the Gauls move in.

50 - 1 B.C. the Chinese enter Carson, bringing African Slaves, monkeys, white tigers and miniature elephants from Africa. It is also believed even more Gallic people entered the island at this point to escape Caesar’s wars.

Historians Note - It is believed, but not confirmed, that the indians here slowly gained immunity to these diseases that would have been afflicting them. We also believe that many indians left the american continent for Carson Bay, but there is no evidence to support, or contradict, such a claim.

50 A.D. - 1,000 A.D. The vikings become the first official European people to inhabit the island, and steady migration of the people boosts the population. They live in peace with the Indians, Persians and the other Barbarian tribes. This becomes a general way stop for future raids on other countries. When their empire collapsed around 1,000 A.D., the island was left as it was, and many Norse people still reside there today. Also during this time, between the years of 870 and 950 A.D., many Irish Monks come down out of Iceland.

Historians Note - it was believed for along time that Alexanders armies actually clashed with the Vikings. this was beginning to alter many pre conceived ideas on the Viking peoples, but with the discovery of the other, earlier groups, it allows historians to place the people elsewhere in time. It does however, challenge the notion of the early sailing abilities, and if the Celts, Cymry and Picts had a far large empire then once thought of. Again, no proof to substansiate or debunk such a theory.

1095 A.D. - 1270 A.D. - Many Muslims, a few Christians and Jews make their way to the island to escape the Crusades. While the Christians attempted to convert the Indians, they were ostracized and generally generally ignored. Where the Christians established a nunnery, a monastery and several churches, the Muslims and Jews constructed schools, libraries and a few observatories.

Historians Note - During the last half of the Middle Ages, the French arrived on the island to establish a fishing port. The French fishermen come and go. It is possible that even more people of different backgrounds came to the island from these fishing trips. Many French still live on the island today, and there buildings still stand.

Historians note - Between the 1500s and the 1800s, many colonists attempted to enter the island. They were refused, however, but they did settle a few neighboring islands. It is for this reason one of the islands stands today looking exactly like it did in the 1800s. James Island, as it is often referred to, is uninhabited and is host to colonial artifacts. The inhabitants of the main island refuse to enter the island, and so far, all attempts to explore the island have failed.
