The History of the Treasure of Makitutu

About 4000 years ago, the goddess of the island of Baheine fell in love with the ruler of Nidaya, King Bowen, and earned his love as well. She turned herself into a mortal to be with him taking the name Makitutu as she was only known as the goddess prior to that. But before hand, she locked her powers into a magical pendant of gold with an indigo jewel in its center thus she was able to retain her god-like powers as a mortal. Under her protection, the kingdom flourished. She married the king and bore him a daughter who was named Makitutu after her glorious mother.

Meanwhile, King Zueril of Vesairn grew jealous that the Nidayan king was chosen over himself. He destroyed the goddess's temple claiming that there was no longer a goddess for the temple to belong to. He plotted to kill Bowen and his daughter and take the queen along with all her powers for himself. But as hard as he tried, he always cowered at the former goddess's strength. One day, Queen Makitutu, admist one of Vesairn's attacks, smote down the envious king, though she hadn't the heart to destroy him completely. She entrapped his spirit into a black crystal and buried it within the ruins of her temple where no one was sure to find it for no one would visit if there was no longer a temple.

The queen was powerful, but she was now mortal. Before she died, she decreed that her daughter should recieve the magic pendant and she and her people were to guard it from those who sought its power for greedy purposes. Her final words, ("For the protection, wisdom, and love of all sprytes must the goddess's treasure stand.") were engraved into the medalion around its gem in the spryte tongue.

As it would happen, the princess would later marry and have a daughter whom she named Makitutu and that daughter would have a daughter and so on where the heirs of Nidaya were always female and named Makitutu (this believed to have something to do with the goddess's powers) and the pendant, or the Treasure of Makitutu as it eventually became known, would be passed down from queen to princess for thousands of years. And throughout the ages, many tried to claim the Treasure, none so prominent as Vesairn whose leaders tried ever so hard to retrieve what their predecessors could not, but none suceeded due to the subjects loyal to the goddess's last wishes and the queen with the power of the Treasure.

We come to rest on the latest heiress, Makitutu CLXVI (166th) at a time when she was eight years old. The poor girl had been put through elemental and knight training as were the princesses before her, but she couldn't manage to do anything right and no one would take the time to teach her properly since they knew she wouldn't end up as a knight or elemental. At this time, the current Vesairn leader, King Kiros, ambushed the queen and princess as they were walking in the jungle unguarded. Queen Makitutu CLXV died trying to protect her daughter. Before Kiros could claim the Treasure, the young girl some how got a hold of it and was miraculously able to use it to save herself and to mortally wound their attacker, but it was too late to save the queen. King Denar and the young Makitutu as well as all of Nidaya were devastated over the loss of their queen, but there was little time to lament for the young girl was put on the throne.

Kiros returned to Vesairn where he later died, leaving the throne to his own young heir, Prince Tarak. To avenge his father's death, Tarak traveled to the Ruins and searched for over a solid month until he somehow managed to uncover the hidden crystal containing the spirit of the first evil king to fight for the Treasure. He believed he was doing his kingdom an honor by returning the remains of their ancestor after the death of their king, but when the boy touched the crystal, his body was overtaken by Zueril's spirit, who had grown powers of his own from the breif moment he'd touched the goddess and had become sinister over his centuries of imprisonment in the crystal, now determined more than ever to have the Treasure's powers. While Tarak's own spirit is powerless to stop Zueril, it still remains trapped inside his own body.

Now, nearly a decade has passed, the princess has learned to harness the Treasure as so many have before her. Even though she is the youngest to have ever worn it, and has no mother to teach her to use it, the Treasure's abilities seem to come to her naturally. She leads Nidaya, with help from her father and the council. Princess Makitutu CXLVI, or Maki as she is better known (for she hates to be referred to as a number and is the first in the long line of Makitutu's to recieve a nickname) is trying to keep peace with her allies for she dreams of a united Bahiene for the future, all kingdoms coming together in friendship, but still finds herself constantly deflecting attacks from her enemies. It is said that Tarak may actually have a chance at suceeding in his task with the help of Zueril and the other kingdoms allied with Vesairn, but that is only known to the fates. We shall see what is to become of them in due time.
