Background:

The origin of Halflings is unknown. While in some respects they resemble Elves, for instance the half-pointed ears, they are considerably smaller (about half the size) and do not share the same life-span or the same love for nature and all living things. Indeed, in some respects they resemble humans more.

Wherever their origin, Halflings are now fairly common around the realms, although more in the Irigarn continent. They are fun-loving humanoids, who seem to find a particular knack as merchants, having good natural skills in bargaining and administration.

However, lurking at the bottom of the soul of every Halfling lies a thief, plain and simple. Halflings love shiny items, such as gold or jewels, and will go to extraordinary lengths to obtain them. In this way do they share some ways with Dwarves, although the latter race would rather win their wealth honourably, in battle, of course. Dwarves do not share Halflings natural agility, however, making any relationship between the two races unlikely.

Halflings are particularly proficient in weapons that are either designed for them or that can be used by creatures of their size. Such weapons include slings and small bows, as well as long knives and daggers in close combat. No halfling truly likes to kill someone, it tends to spoil their fun a little, especially if they're attacked. However, often a guard may be murdered without guilt if he stands in the way of a rich treasure...

Halflings are often adventurers, their fun-loving nature and lust for gold often persuades them to join up with other similarly-minded warriors. The warriors themselves tend to be rather wary of a Halfling in their group, but it is rare for a Halfling to steal off its own companions.

Naturally short in stature, Halflings are about half the size of humans and Elves. They are of a similar height to Gnomes and slightly smaller than Dwarves, but lack both races' bulk and strength. They are deceptively strong, but lack resilience.

Role-playing:

A happy-go-lucky adventurer type. Thieves are common and merchants are often used by Halfling players.

Advantages - Good natural thieving skills and good natural agility.

Disadvantages - Penalties to strength and constitution.

Specialized Racial Class - Thief.
