Background:

The offspring of Elves and humans are known as Half-Elves. The mating of the two races is not common, and where it does happen the relationship is not a happy one. The lifespan of Elves is much longer than a human lifespan, sometimes twice as long, and the process of aging destroys what was once a happy family.

The other way for Half-Elves to occur is of course if two Half-Elves have offspring. This however is far less likely than the above case, as most Half-Elves are loners by nature, and finding a mate is not high on their list of priorities.

There are problems for the offspring as well. If they are brought up with their Elven parent, then the Half-Elf matures at a much earlier age than their Elven friends, becoming stronger too. They are also uncontent with the simple life of most Elves in the woods, and most venture into towns.

On the other hand, Half-Elven children living with their human parent don't have it easy either. They are laid-back to the point of exasperation, and also seem less active and challenging. There is also a certain aura around them that makes people uncomfortable around them.

Wherever they go, Half-Elves can be shunned as outcasts. However, in larger cities, with a larger variety of races and cultures, they may feel more at home with some of their own kind.

For the most part, however, Half-Elves will be found out in the wilderness, driven to solidarity by the fact that they never quite feel as if they belong anywhere in particular. Those who wander make good Bards - their natural Elven skill combines with their human energy and their urge to travel. Most Half-Elven Bards were raised by their human parent.

Half-Elves who stay close to the woodlands (mostly those raised by their Elven parent), generally maintain their love of trees and become Rangers or Druids. They dwell in the forests, if not with their former tribe.

In physical appearance most Half-Elves resemble their human parent, as generally the human blood is stronger. Apart from slightly pointed ears, being a little shorter and more slightly-built than their human counterparts they are similar.

Half-Elves are just that, a cross between an Elf and a human. They therefore receive a diluted version of an Elf's natural skills in art, music and other matters such as woodcraft and archery. These obviously depend on where the Elf was raised, of course.

Role-playing:

Most Half-Elves tend to be wanderers by nature - very few have settled down in a single place for more than a short period of time.

Advantages - none apart from smaller versions of most Elven class skills (see here for more information). Like humans they can easily pick up most skills.

Disadvantages - none, apart from their wanderlust and half-blood.

Specialized Racial Class - Any.
