The Elven Ages
Following the Dark Ages one race soon rose to supremacy on the continents of Telandron; the elves. Blessed by their creator, Alae (known as Vitae by the elves themselves), they were tall, handsome, strong, agile and skilled in all manner of arts from warcraft to poetry and music. They did not attempt to rule over the whole world, but only the parts that had been designated for them by Alae according to their race; the forests and the surrounding areas to the wood elves, the higher mountains to the mountain elves, and, so the elven records say, the seas and ocean beds to the sea elves, although whether such creatures exist now or even ever existed is unlikely, as surely nothing could survive below the waves?. But I digress. Back in those years the forests were much larger and more numerous than they are now, and in particular the Forest Of Spiders stretched over much of the Irithrion continent. Since then Orcish attacks and human settlements have reduced its size, not to mention the Rise of Chaos, which will be dealt with later.
The elven forests were places of wonder and beauty. Glades of trees stretched for many kilometres, carefully cultivated by the elves who tended to them. Elven towns (of which none now exist) and villages were connected by high overhead walkways. The elves tamed the various beasts that shared the forests with them, and often ventured out to trade and share information with the human and dwarf tribes that at this time were gradually beginning to civilize. In fact it is probable that the first literate human was taught by an elf, though this cannot be verified. Gradually with help the humans and dwarfs formed clans, families and nations from formally quarrelling and fractious tribes, and rudimentary governments were formed. In general however the elves kept their affairs totally apart human and dwarf, not getting involved in any war unless in threatened the elves themselves.
During this time they perfected the arts of magic, which were to elude the other various races for centuries yet, and raised mighty palaces and monuments to the gods. In fact, it is possible that the elves constructed buildings more elaborate than the Great Temples in Al Voyen to minor gods! Such feats of magic and construction are to be admired by all; but these buildings remain standing only in elvish lore. Very little of any trace of these reputed constructions remain today.
Towards the end of the Elven Ages the other races began to spring up; though whether creations of other gods (though that particular thought seems unlikely, judging how the gods left the world centuries earlier) or results of cross-breeding between races is debatable. At these times halflings and gnomes began to appear across the human, elven and dwarven realms.
