The foundation of the Legion, or the Imperial Fists, is unknown. It is said that they carved out the original Tan Ktholian Empire (the current territory, Ulak, parts of modern Kaylon and some minor outlying islands, formed between 1042 and 1092, in the rules of three different Emperors) from the land which was at the time many different provinces.
The Legion was the driving force. At the time they had vastly superior weaponry and tactics, and they easily swept away the poorly defended towns erected by the rival provinces. At the time they were the foremost military force in the world.
Today however, they are no-longer the best of the best. Rather, they have been eclipsed by the slightly newer Kaylonic Elite Knights who have the natural advantage of being cavalry.
They also suffer from too high standards. While other formations accept any, the Generals accept only the best with weapons, the fittest and the strongest. This makes them probably the most proficient, but their numbers are only in the region of 400-475.
Tan Kthol's other main military strength lies in their peculiar agreement with some of the Elves living on their borders, who are known as the dydharel - they supply some Elven troops occasionally to the Ktholian armies in return for their borders being respected.
The current Lord High General is Lord Hurgral, a former mercenary lord who was defeated and captured by the Legion. He rose in the ranks, becoming more trusted all the time, until he was elected the position by the orders.
