Some people may be curious of the importance of scales. It can be a pain to have to memorize all these different patterns and it not seem useful in the beginning. It is actually very important. Scales are the basis of all music. All riffs, chords, licks and solos are derived from scales in one way or another. Scales also generate an increased understanding of music and how it works (they're also essential to understanding the construction of chords!) There are countless different scales to learn with different step patterns and unique sounds to them, but below i have written out a few that are common in western music and that have proved useful for me and many other musicians.

It is imperitive that you understand the concept of modes, which I will explain through a link below. Before you start learning these scales, I suggest you at least skim over the modes section to have a basic understanding of this concept (although it probably will make more sense to you later.)

Please keep in mind that the material below is MASSIVE. There is a ton of stuff in just this section below (it took me roughly a year, give or take, to learn all of this.) Practice them slowly and perfectly! My guitar teacher once told me that rushing into mass amounts of material like this is a lot like constructing a building without a proper foundation. If these are not practiced correctly your building will crumble leaving everyone inside mangled and dead.
